  • Bio

Flakjacket’s sound might be described as roots-rock, or as an amalgam of jazz-influenced chord progressions, Americana, and post-alternative pop. It’s a sound crafted by practicing a simple overriding philosophy: work hard, show your guts, and have fun..... Flakjacket’s songwriting team (Alex Hyatt, vocals; Liam Irwin, guitar, vocals) attracts college kids, neo-hippies, barflies, grownup Jane’s Addiction fans, and pop radio junkies. You’ll hear a super-melodic duo in acoustic settings, but make no mistake: the full five-piece electric outfit (Matt Baker; bass, Tim Irwin; drums, Kyle Lewis; rhythm guitar) will rattle your rusty cage..... Originally hailing from New York’s Washington County, the band has been lucky enough to play the hallowed stage at Saratoga’s folky Caffé Lena, has rocked out at Albany’s Valentines’ and The Bayou, and has swilled Pabst Blue Ribbon with the college kids at Plattsburgh’s Monopole. Flakjacket has performed nearly 200 shows at more than 40 venues since forming in 2006, hacking into a bulging regional music scene one gig at a time. .... The band’s list of accomplishments includes heavy rotation on national internet radio juggernaut RadioUgly.com, Glens Falls NY’s “8Trax” television program, and a growing presence on college and commercial radio throughout New England. In 2007, Flakjacket was one of only 100 bands nationwide selected to record for North Country Public Radio’s UpNorth Music Program..... Flakjacket’s critically-acclaimed debut EP, “Angels&Fireflies” (2006), was produced and engineered by Grammy nominee Marc Fuller. The new full-length album—“Almost Always Never” recorded for indie label Ugly Media, drops on May 22, 2010. With Fuller producing again, Flakjacket’s sophomore effort showcases the growing strength of Irwin and Hyatt’s signature songwriting, and portends well for the band’s future..... My favorite Flakjacket moment has to be when Alex and Liam first asked me to play with them on stage at the Rock Hill Bakehouse back on Saturday, December 15th 2007. I was in the audience and Alex asked me to play harmonica with him and Liam on Tom Petty's smash hit "“You Don’t Know How It Feels”. It was [and is] really awesome and cool of these guys to let me play music with them on stage!!!
