anyone anywhere who has ever made a movie because they had something to say. anyone anti-hollywood. anyone that kicks ass that breaks through hollywood. britney spear's kids. all our top friends, all our new friend requests, the guy outside making a movie, kingston & Seattle, Juba Kalamka, Ed Varga, Sadie Benning, matt thomas, justin cowboy, kate mcNulty and you.
About me: The Flaming Film Festival was founded by filmmaker Lisa Ganser as an effort to build community and bring movies and queer culture that was lacking in the Twin Cities. She was inspired by festivals and venues such as Ed Varga's Homocore Minneapolis, Eleanor Savage's Vulva Riot and out of town fests such as Chicago Underground and Mix Brasil: Festival of Sexual Diversity. The festival happens annually and is volunteer run. F3 focuses on facets of queer culture that are underrepresented in mainstream media. We are a political, smart, sometimes low brow (but always witty), grassroots, fun, experimental festival that manages to create miracles with almost no money. We've included workshops, youth screenings, open reels, dialogues and serve as a catalyst to create social change among people through the media arts. We find movies at other festivals, through an open call for submission, asking our friends, networking on the internet and when seeing films projected between bands on a wall at an all age show in a basement. We offer homestays, meals, festival passes, parties and live music to all our guests in attendance - and always have at least a dozen out of towners. Send us your movies. If you are gay, on the DL, pansexual, lesbian, bi-curious, homosexual, bisexual, in the family, transsexual, same gender loving, transgendered, genderqueer or none of the above but are comfortable enough with your own sexuality to check out an amazing midwest film festival that identifies in all these ways - then there is something for you at the Flaming Film Festival. Send in your movie... or go make one!
Who I'd like to meet: YOU!!! also Queer filmmakers. Especially those under represented in mainstream queer culture. We love the Bs and the Ts of the letters GLBT, and all the letters not included in those limited 4. We want to meet young and emerging artists. 15 year olds. We want to meet 70 year olds. We especially like experimental, non-narrative, cutting edge, undistributed work. Movies by artists of color, extreme political backgrounds, differently abled folks, those of us that are HIV+, bands with music videos and we want to help people get access to equipment and resources so if they have always wanted to make a movie, they can. And we'll give you somewhere to show it in front of an audience.
