THE FLARE ACOUSTIC ARTS LEAGUE IS (at present): LD Beghtol and casts of thousands
Influences
Desolation, exhileration, longing, despair, false hope and faux amies...
Sounds Like
“It's weird, it's haunting, it's creepy, it's dissonant, it's slow and it's quite frankly a little crap upon first listen. It's certainly hard to categorise: acoustic is probably the only way to summarise it correctly but even that is horrendously vague... Some of it wouldn't sound out of place in a church, other sections in a horror film. It skits between relaxant and intimidator, upper and depressant. It's really impressive.” --groovestealer.com
Led by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist LD BEGHTOL (LD..& the New Criticism, Magnetic Fields, moth wranglers, etc.) and Mother West studio chief CHARLES NEWMAN, New York-based band Flare began in 1996 as mostly-acoustic string ensemble with an open-door policy that allowed other like-minded - though often not - musicians to participate in live shows and recordings as mutually desired. Flare started minimal, just Beghtol and cofounder DAMIAN COSTILLA (who left the band in 1998 to paint) on guitar... the they met Ernie, then Charles and Vinnie and Hollie, and on and on and on. One naysayer marvelled in print that it took seven people to make so little noise... Then things really got out of hand. * * * * * “Flare’s second full-length [HUNG] expertly unites symphonic indie rock, country folk, and noise in a masterwork of experimental pop. Lyrically, Beghtol salts cynical realism with humor, making the rare confessional that is heartfelt without being overwrought.’ -rollingstoneonline
I miss you. I'm baking blueberry pies with fresh Michigan blueberries I bought in Kalamazoo between Chicago and Detroit (the faded and decrepit beauty we were filming in last weekend).
I hope the pies are good. Want a slice when they're cooled, pretty bear boy?

I loved the inaugural podcast of HIGH BIAS. I'd been wanting a nice bottle of spirits to break across my iTunes window, so to speak, & some new crystal glasses to pitch at the hearthstone of my LGBT Pride Month.
I'm getting both from LD's "Nostalgia = Death" theme. Almost all the music's been new to me, the old & the new songs. It's a great way to treasure queer heritage without clinging to it.
But thank god there's more to life than rainbows and sweeping up each year. I can't wait to see what prisms LD twists after this.
