Flashpoint records is an independent recording label specialising in rock / pop music. Under the helm of Harry Vanda, Flashpoint Music was formed to source talented hard working artists and writers who have the desire and ambition for international success. In the past 5 years the company has grown to encompass music production, a publishing and recording label, an online distribution service for unsigned bands, an on-line music store and a massive studio complex.
We distribute through Shock for CD retail and iTunes for worldwide on-line. In the coming months we will be expanding our on-line presence to other outlets and our 'Music store' on our website providing mail order catalog.
The recording label has an 'old school' (Ted Albert) approach to artist development and business. We have a major studio complex for our artists to spend the time to write and record so we have no need to outsource facilities and put bands into massive amounts of debt to achieve a world class product. It comes naturally here and without all the huge outlay. We don't give massive advances either, as we have a realistic approach to the new digital age of music and the dwindling CD sales worldwide. What we do provide however is a nurturing and economically sound future for our acts, and have them earning royalties long before others bands do.
We look at ourselves as riding the new wave of the music industry with our completely in-house, energetic and vibrant approach to creating and marketing music. We are also into ongoing and successful relationships with our acts, complimenting their musical and marketing infrastructure rather than taking it over like our major label counterparts. At Flashpoint it's all about sensible business combined with total creativity and the music!
Flags ship label act British India spearheaded the Flashpoint attack on the charts with their latest album 'Thieves'. The album was released just 12 months after their debut and found massive success on the Australian national charts, entering the ARIA Album Chart at 5.
The album was produced by Harry Vanda who with son Daniel Vandenberg make up the Flashpoint production 'A' team that is responsible for many successful productions including 'Evie' by Australian supergroup 'The Wrights'.
Harry's credentials as a world class producer are quite astounding including over 100 million sales worldwide for acts such as AC/DC, Flash and the pan and JPY. A bonafide legend of the Australian music industry, Harry's legacy is enormous and ongoing. From guitarist and co-songwriter of the Easybeats in the 60's (Australia's first major international contender), to co-writer of one of the biggest songs the world has ever heard 'Love is in the air', his enduring partnership with George Young (Albert productions) became the most prolific success story of the 70's and 80's in Australia and internationally. Today he is producing young cutting edge acts such as British India. A testament to his ability to always be at the forefront of music.
Nic Cester (Jet) and Kram (Spiderbait), fans of the Easybeats and the Vanda/Young musical partnership approached Harry with the idea of putting together a 'supergroup' to perform the classic song 'Evie' in it's entirety (3 parts). The band included Bernard Fanning of Powerfinger, Chris Cheney of The living End, Dave Laney of You am I and Phil Jamieson of Grinspoon. After much negotiation the track was produced by Harry, engineered by Daniel and released in 2005. The track was a massive hit, with gold status. The band got together to perform a memorable rendition of the song in it's 3 parts at the Wave aid concert at the SCG.
2009 signing for Flashpoint records is electro-pop act and NA2R 2006 winners Celebrity Drug Disasters who are currently in the studio recording their follow up to the critically acclaimed debut 'Art or Porn?'. Their debut single 'Getting better' was the 4th most added song to radio in Australia on release and was played on over 80 radio stations across the country. Their music has also featured on countless TV shows including Big Brother, Bondi Rescue, Summer Heights High, A Current Affair, Canal Road, Home and Away, Off The Runway... And used in advertising campaigns for companies such as Ford Australia, Soothers Liquid Centers and Aussie Bum.

Brisbane outfit Toy Balloon will release their debut album Toy Division on
November 8 through Lofly Records, and to celebrate will perform an east coast
launch tour throughout November.
Formed in 2007, Toy Balloon was
originally a fledgling two-piece made up by Nimai Etheridge’s uniquely melodic
wall-of-sound guitar and Greg Cooper’s beautiful sequenced electronic
compositions. The band have since matured into a four piece featuring Chloe
Cooper (Mr Maps) on key boards and Ben Green on drums.
The album was
recorded and mixed at the Lofly Hangar in Brisbane, a DIY performance space that
Toy Balloon has been an integral part of creating. Fostering emerging artists
and left-of-centre music, the Hangar acts as a performance space, recording
studio, and meeting place; and has resulted in a record with a rich, layered
sound reminiscent of New Order, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, and LCD
Soundsystem.
