That's right folks. Tom Penn's nine month stint is over (like a pregnancy!), and Gray Cooper is kindly filling in. What we really need, however, is a lovely, shiny permanent guitarist of our very own. You can get a good idea of what we do from this site, but let me sum it up: we play fast, tight, punk rock with plenty of melody. We like to do it as often as possible, in as many countries as we can. We do it with whoever will listen, book us or give us a floor to sleep on. We travel a long way to do it, and sometimes we don't eat properly. We almost always drink properly. We always remember to say please and thank you. We will do it on the beaches, in the streets and in the fields, we will never surrender...hang on, I was getting carried away there.
Play guitar? Sing a bit? Not frightened of hard work? Want more fun than you have ever had? Mail us here, or contact Ste at aponepunk@yahoo.co.uk or on 07779930213.
WE NOW HAVE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL: That's right: check out user flatbackfourtheband for musical tomfoolery.
THE PROPER BIOGRAPHY:
Flat Back Four are a punk band from St Helens and Manchester in the north west of England (or LANCASHIRE as they prefer to call large parts of it). They like football, beer, cricket, curry, history, sausage rolls and – of course – punk. Well, and metal, come to think of it. They play fast, catchy songs about the things they like (the studious can refer to the helpful list above) and enjoy playing gigs very much indeed. In four years they have played over 150, spending a small fortune on plectrums, sausage rolls and petrol on the way.
In the same period they have released two E.P.s, one album (Who Dares Penguins), and one split cd, eaten about two tons of Scotch eggs, had six drummers, played in Germany (five trips) and Sweden (they speak Swedish there, ya know) and had six drummers. Did I mention that? Yes, six. Not all at once. Thankfully, the settled down following the return of original drummer Tom Cunningham in October 2006 and things are looking up. The shows in the last year earned some damned fine reviews (seriously) and they have a steady stream of dates coming up.
The lads released a new EP, Once More Unto the Breach, in March 2008, then went to play in Germany. It was ace - so good that they went back in December. That was ace too. So they went back in June. That was better still. They are currently writing and recoring tracks for a split album with Japanese band Jolly Blobby Sex, due out on Dead Lamb Records later in the year.
Guitarist Tom Penn has just left the band to return home to the south coast, having graduated from university in LIPA. That was always the plan, but the other lads miss him - at least two of them have developed an anxiety rash. If anyone could suggest an appropriate ointment, please an email, they would be terribly grateful.
If you see the boys on the road, throw a sausage roll at them, or perhaps a flump. Go on. You know you want to.
BUYING STUFF To buy any of the CDs listed on the left, or any of the four t-shirt designs, send us a message through this site or email us at flatback4punk@yahoo.co.uk
brought back happy childhood memories of hiking with my big brother. We'd always sing that song. Of course I was always Laurel and he was Hardy 'cause he's fat and I'm thick !!!!
Hi, thanks for beeing friends. It was a very very nice birthday for me! Hope Flat Back Four will play again in Druckluft. Best wishes from my brother. He was very lucky to hear from you. Marion
