  • Bio

The Flat Fivers are a string swing band made up of Southern Oregon locals who play traditional songs of the 1930s and 40s European and American swing eras including songs by Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, contemporary swing tunes, old-time swing tunes, jazz standards and originals. They respect the traditions of Gypsy jazz and strive to maintain the sprit of that music. "Above all, we insist that we open our minds through improvisation and that we have fun while we play." ----- The Flat Flat Five String Band have played Restaurants, Wineries, Bars, Art Houses, Coffee Shops, Britt Festival, Street Corners, and Police Stations.----- They have shared venues with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Blackberry Bushes, Paper Bird, Siskiyou Summit, Ham Fist, Eight Dollar Mountain, and many others.----- They have shared the stage with Rob Sweeney, Jeff Pevar and Inger Jorgensen, Jakob Breitbach, Paul Blackwell and Linda Shabean, Shae Johnson, Calysta, Jake Ransom, Jason Smith-Jackson, and many musical strangers.------What's been said: With influences from French gypsy troubadours, the American vintage swing-era and a little jazz, it's no wonder that in the four years the band has been together it has created a local following...the Flat Five String Band definitely add to the unique fabric of acoustic live music heard throughout Southern Oregon. -Mandy Valencia Ashland Daily Tidings -----"You swung the shit out that set" -Andy Rowley Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
