Fletcher2008's Blurbs |
About me:
I am a 2007 graduate of Indiana University Northwest. I am a strong believer of the call to serve the public. Due to my disability I am unable to serve in the Armed Services, therefore I feel that it is my duty to give back to the community I was born, raised and currently reside in.
I am a Democratic candidate for First District Representative. There are many issues facing us today, and a promise that was made to my generation and that of our generations' children was broken. That promise, to make our lives and the lives of our children better & easier, and it continues to be broken on a daily basis. We must improve the education system to be competitive not only nationally but also globally. We must also improve the Health-Care system to ensure that all legal Hoosiers get the care that they need. This includes guaranteeing that our seniors and chronically ill residents do not ever again have to choose between groceries, utilities or medications. We must improve the public transit system so all residents have the opportunity to get out and handle the errands they need to. We must do this, but we must also overhaul the public aid system in Indiana. We need to make sure that those who truly need the system get the benefits. This aid is to help people pull themselves up, dust themselves off and try for a better life. Public aid is not and can not be a way of life. We need to invest in new industries to ensure that all Hoosiers that can and want to be gainfully employed are. We need to give our first responders--our officers, firemen and paramedics--the tools and resources they need to provide the services they do and be unequaled by any other agency in the world. But more importantly, we need tax relief. Not a form of relief for a year, five years or a decade, but real tax relief. We need all of this, and we need it today!

Who I'd like to meet:
Any one who is interested in getting involved with the betterment of their community.
Campaign Announcement made in front of Gavit High School: I am here today to talk about a promise made. A promise that was made to me and to those of my generation. A promise to lead and a promise to change. And today it is sad that that promise has been broken and continues to be broken. This promise was to make our lives, and the lives of our children, better and easier than those who came before us. I wanted to start this journey right here where it all became possible for me. Soon we will be inundated by the many questions, ideas and positions of those seeking to fulfill this new promise. But none of this matters right now. This, right here behind me, matters; they, who enter these hallowed halls as youths and exit as young adults, matter; those, who are filled with dreams and hopes of a better tomorrow, matter. Every day these students walk in glimpse their futures and ask for hope. They may not know that they need it yet, but they do. I am here to tell you personally that in a life of challenges, hope is real. In a time when people are cynical of the politics of this community, hope is real. When jobs are disappearing by the day and opportunities to support your family yourself are gone, hope is real. When the quality of education and the standards are lowered, hope is real. When families go without health care, food or a roof over their head, hope is real. Hope is what gives us the courage to get up, to take on our greatest challenges, to move forward together. Hope is not up for debate. There is such a thing a false science, there is such a thing as false promises, but there is no such thing as false hope. There is only hope. That is why today, with your help and hard work and the hopes of the great citizens of the First District, I hereby announce my candidacy for State Representative.
