hmmm...that is a lot. New Orleans (and helping her and her residents rebuild), old-school burlesque, antiques, period costuming, design, many artistic pursuits (getting back into acrylics on canvas), baking/cake decorating, courtesans (17th-19th C)...and much, much more!
..
You are a romantic goth, better known as a traditional goth. You are probably quickly identified as a goth by outsiders. Black lace, bats, and moonlit cemetaries are just a few of your favorite things. Click on my name to take my other tests if you liked this one.

Music
Most of the alternative stuff of the 80's, some of the darker stuff w/great beats such as Rob Zombie, Korn and related sounds. Green Day and Linkin Park (such good cathartic tunes!). However, I also love 18th Century harpsichord and such music as well. My iPod has a bizarre but pleasing variety. Received Sally Shapiro's "Disco Romance" for xmas and it's very nice!!!
Movies
old-school screwball comedies like "Bringing Up Baby", "My Man Godfrey", "It Happened One Night"...CLASSIC!!! Of course "Gone w/the Wind"!!! Then "Clerks II", "Clerks", "Mallrats", "V for Vendetta", "Amelie", "Princess Bride", "Grosse Pointe Blank", "Say Anything"... And of course "A Room w/a View". Looking forward to the release of "Alatriste"! Um, yeah and pretty much everything Jane Austen (tops: Pride & Prejudice (Colin/Jennifer version, please!!), Persuasion, followed by Sense & Sensibility)
Oh, and -
moar funny pictures
Television
"Dexter" on Showtime, "CSI: Las Vegas" (even the reruns), most of the baking/cake challenges on Food Network. For now, yes, even "The Girls Next Door"...and my mom has gotten me into "Hell Date"!!! LOL!
Books
Jane Austen, of course! And P.G. Wodehouse (I strongly recommend trying a sample - it will change your life...)! Starting to tuck into my Nigella Lawson cookbooks (yum!). Also, I have Anthony Bourdain's "Les Halles Bistro" cookbook - everything is probably beyond my comprehension, but c'mon, it's Tony! :)(hubba hubba!) I received some great Louisiana cookbooks for Christmas that I am eager to try (would that I had the energy at the end of the day). Recently bought "A Good Year" by Peter Mayle and thoroughly enjoyed it (I LOVED "A Year in Provence", but then the t.v. version had John Thaw and I adored him!).
If you like New Orleans, read Barbara Hambly's 'Benjamin January' series, set in 1830s New Orleans!
Heroes
My late Grandfather. On a more global level, Al Gore. And pretty much whomever makes preznit shrubya and his cabal go away, disappear, eat a pretzel, shrivel up and blow away...(you get the point) thereby saving our nation.
On a career note: Bronwen Weber, pastry chef supreme in Dallas, hope to take a workshop from her (would be the only reason to go to Dallas in my opinion - just not keen on that city).

Fleur de Lis Gal Just another week about to start - hope it's GR8 for everyone! P!NK concert on Thurs! :) Posted at 11:01 PM Sep 20 view more
About me: Up and coming self-taught (no schooling - just using my college-picked up skills from my Interior Design degree!) cake artist (currently chained to my cubicle, alas - if only this economy would at least quit dissolving and at best improve!!!) - and no, I don't do Elmo or Hello Kitty cakes... ;)
Competed in my first Cake Competition in Austin Feb '08! Check out my photo gallery for "Kitteh Gonna Get Ya!"! I didn't win anything THIS time. But, I got a LOT of positive responses on my style and technique! :)
On another note, I do indeed know what it means to miss New Orleans and in less than a month, I move back into Houston proper from the 'burbs. That will put me 45 minutes closer to my soul's home! And Houston-wise, I will be in town and closer to my Inner Loop friends and my old Inner Loop life - much improved!!!
Please go visit New Orleans and support the local merchants/bed and breakfasts/boutique hotels (I can recommend a few!)! And as soon as I can, I will be there for a long weekend.
And as of August 21, working on a special cake design for my friends, a b'day cake for a soon-to-be 2 year old, and start working on my 2009 "That Takes The Cake" Competition cake designs!!! :) :) :) This year - a medal!!!
Lest I forget - Impeach bush and cheney!!! No 'preznit for life'!!! Blessings y'all!
How Louisiana Are You
Your Result: Total Louisiana
You really know where the party's at! You're familiar with the standards, such as Mardi Gras and Crawfish, but you also know the finer details of Louisiana Livin.
Which Early 19th Century Literary Heroine Are You?
You are Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's fabulous book "Pride and Prejudice." Elizabeth is witty, vivacious, smart, funny, beautiful, and all together amazing. However, she lets her pride get in the way of several things that could make her happy. But that is canceled out by her realization of this and her subsequent humility, which makes her even more perfect. Take this quiz!
You're unpredictable, moody, and downright freaky.
You seem sweet and harmless, until you snap. Then you're a total monster.
Very few people can predict if you're going to be Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde.
But for you, all your transformations seem perfectly natural.
Your greatest power: Your ability to tap into nature
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris.
You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
You are an Elementalist. Your magic stems from the forces of nature. You might be a forest nuturing Druid, a storm-creating Weather-Wizard or any of the many Elementals, but one thing is sure-- your bond with nature is strong. You can rely heavily on nature to support yourself aesthetically or physically for it lends you both comfort and strength. Your instincts rarely fail you. You are vibrantly passionate but are sometimes carried away by your own emotions. Take this quiz!
The Werewolf is the symbol for Spiritual Paths. You have the soul of a wolf inside you, which makes you warm and caring to those you love.
Strengths: Protection is a number one priority, and therefore you always gaurd the ones you love and keep tight bonds with your pack mates. Loyalty is strong within yourself, and you also expect it from the ones who are close to you.
Flip Side: Even though you care for those you love deeply, if they betray you, anger races through your veins. The Werewolf, despite it's warm fun-loving personality, can also stand up for itself if need be. You would have no problem hiding your anger if something sets you off balance.
You are a natural leader - with confidence and strength that inspires others.
Driven to succeed, you are always looking for ways to gain, power, knowledge, and expertise.
Sometimes you aren't the most considerate person, especially to those who are a bit slow.
You are not easily intimidated - and you have a commanding, awe-inspiring presence.
In love, you hold high standards... for yourself, for your relationship, and for your significant other.
While it's easy for you to impress others, it's hard for you to find someone who impresses you.
At work, you are organized and good at delegating. You understand how to achieve goals.
You would make a great CEO, entrepreneur, or consultant.
How you see yourself: Rational, calm, and objective
When other people don't get you, they see you as: Inflexible, controlling, and overbearing
You are spiritual, intuitive, and serene.
People trust you to rescue them from bad situations, and you usually come through.
While you are quite enlightened, you find that your path is very lonely.
When you are too violet: you can't connect to ordinary life or ordinary people
When you don't have enough violet: you lack wisdom and can't learn from the past
Who I'd like to meet: Alive: Nigella Lawson, Duff Goldman and the groovy cats at CCC, Alton Brown, Viggo Mortensen, Dame Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Al Gore, John Edwards, Spike Lee, the survivors of Katrina, some of the folks whose blogs I submit to and get a sanity-saving chuckle from (Watertiger, Hecate, Attaturk, Tbogg, NTodd, Tengrain, Scout, Athenae, Tena, Holden...and many many more!).
Dead: Marie Antoinette (no, not because of the over-sexed, not-so-substantive movie, though the costumes look intriguing, I have been obsessed about her since childhood), Carole Lombard, William Powell, Katherine Hepburn, Buster Keaton,...and the late and ever so great Xristim who blogged at Gadflying and posted on WT's and Tengrain's sites as well as others - her use of wonderful and eloquent vocab in such a perect and all too appropriate manner was a joy to behold...you are missed!

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.
