"The members of Flexible Music are undaunted by the repertoire's formidable demands. The results are varied and vital, a feast of intimate musical possibilities." Gramophone Aug 2009
"Agressiveness, virtuosity, and seamless ensemble playing are obviously Flexible Music hallmarks. ...the work never really lets the ensemble take a breath, but the players of Flexible Music handle the music's technical and ensemble demands so well that they seem like the musical equivalent of deep sea pearl divers." New Music Box Aug 2009
"Very interesting and beautifully performed. Orianna Webb's Sustenance Variations for Flexible Music, a quartet of percussion, piano, saxophones, and guitar, is exciting, even in the still passages, and entirely convincing. The whole forms a pleasing arc of textural and timbral density." American Record Guide

With an instrumentation that blurs the line between jazz, rock and classical music, Flexible Music was inspired by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's Hout for saxophone, guitar, piano and percussion. Since 2003, the group has commissioned over 30 pieces including new works by Nico Muhly, Orianna Webb, Vineet Shende, John Link, Ryan Streber, Mikel Kuehn, Andrew Waggoner, Steve Ricks, Nizan Leibovich, Ethan Wickman, Ross Bauer, Carl Schimmel, Seung-Ah Oh, and Adam B. Silverman.
Flexible Music looks forward to engagements in fall of 2010 on the Macau International Music Festival in China and at the University of Montreal. This season's concerts have included performances at Syracuse University, Bowling Green State University's Mid-American Festival of New Music, Evolution Music Series (Baltimore), and Chamber Music Now (Philadelphia), and masterclasses at the Peabody Institute of Music and American University. Some of the ensemble's past concerts and residencies include Brigham Young University, University of Utah, Manhattan School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, William Paterson University, and The Stone (NYC). Flexible Music's debut cd, FM, was released by New Focus Recordings in March 2009.
"This was my first encounter with Flexible Music, but it certainly won't be my last. Each player was estimable in his or her own right; together, they provided a broad canvas upon which tonight's composers could unfurl their imaginations.”

Lithuanian electronica, fluxus and proto-pagan minimalism, it's all OUT HEAR on Monday 21 Sept, 8.00pm
TWITTERING MACHINES AND SUTARTINĖS Curated by Anton Lukoszevieze
Lithuanian contemporary music is a hidden gem of the European scene, characterised by a proto-pagan minimalism and a folk inspired sensibility. Sutartinės form the bedrock of much new Lithuanian music, together with electronica and the canonic inventions of composer Rytis Mažulis. Cellist and curator Anton Lukoszevieze plays and introduces the Chordos String Quartet, plus rarely heard music by leading Fluxus member George Mačiūnas.
** This concert is being recorded by BBC Radio 3 and will be transmitted in Hear and Now on Saturday 17th October at 10.30pm.**

Equity Music
Hi Flexible Music, Its Sunday 22nd February 2009 here in Glasgow, Scotland, UK and I have just been out for a nice sunday drive to the north of scotland will also be posting pics to profile soon.
"Sustenance" is my favorite. I love the overall flow of the piece (from what is up. I assume there is more). The mood changes so many drastically at times and the dynamics changes (or interjections really) are really neat.
Keep it up! Check out my work if your bored. I cant afford to hire musicians of your caliber, so it is all computer generated.
