Dr. Bobby Jones, a family physician by day, is FlintHill's mandolin player and baritone singer. Dr. Bobby's love for bluegrass music began during his college days when he and other medical students formed their first band, Sawbones Grass. After moving back to Shelby in the early 1980's. Dr. Bobby has been a part of several successful bands, including Riverbend and New River. His mandolin style has been tremendously influenced by the work of Bill Monroe and Jethro Burns, as well as Darin Aldridge, another local mandolin sensation. Dr. Bobby's family is equally enthusiastic about traditional music and most of the time he is accompanied to both rehearsals and shows by his daughter, Bonnie.

Adam has been playing bluegrass music nearly all of his life. Prior to joining FlintHill, Adam played bass with a number of regional and national groups, including Michelle Nixon and Drive. Supplying the instrumental bass and tenor vocals for FlintHill has proven to be a great opportunity for Adam to showcase his talents. Adam is also active in the sound reproduction for the band. Adam plays a variety of basses, including Michael Kelly, Fender and Steinberger. Adam’s bass is played through a Gallien-Krueger MB 150 amplifier.

Dean Jenks, a healthcare consultant, is FlintHill's banjo player and adds the bass vocals to the four part harmony and quartet style songs. He literally grew up playing in bluegrass bands. Switching from classical guitar to banjo while in high school, Dean developed his own unique style of banjo playing through the direct influences and extensive studying of Earl Scruggs' style banjo, JD Crowe, and later, several progressive banjo artist. Having been a part of several successful bands prior to FlintHill, he credits the current group as having the potential to develop a regional following and having the ability to contribute to the bluegrass scene through their original music.

Wayne Parrish, a native of Rock Hill, SC, is FlintHill's lead guitarist. His musical career is in its third decade and he continues to bring innovative and tasteful guitar work to the band. The quiet one in the group, he lets his guitar speak for him-and it speaks volumes. He is a true master of the guitar. His unique approach to traditional and progressive solos define the overall sound of FlintHill. He has developed the essance of the band through his timing, his unique approach, and his dedication. If there is one recognizable aspect to the band's uniqueness, it has to be the guitar work of Wayne Parrish.

Michael Burgess is FlintHill's lead singer and rhythm guitar player. Michael is the standout force of the band's sound. His powerful and soulful vocals, coupled with his song writing abilities, have made him a recognizable name in the world of bluegrass music. A native of Pumpkin Center, NC, he has played bluegrass music practically all his life. His years of singing and extensive song writing have secured his place in the future of the music. Michael blends everything together to make FlintHill's sound a new force in bluegrass music.
Influences FlintHill was named for the birthplace of Horace Scruggs, one of the founding members of the band. Horace, along with his brother Earl, helped shape the very foundation of bluegrass music, and became a recognizable part of its culture Horace retired from the band in late 2005, but still enjoyed ocassional "jams" and gatherings with FlintHill. Horace went on to be with the Lord in July, 2007. We are proud of what Horace contributed to FlintHill, and will always hold him in our hearts.
