Raised in Binghamton, NY, Flip started playing guitar at age 15 after being unsuccessfully taught piano by his Mom and trombone in grade school/Jr High. French Horn in high school turned out pretty good but by then guitar was winning the battle.

Making his way through all kinds of styles, Flip also began teaching. Thanks to Paul Weiss who taught him Mick Goodrick of Berklee College's method of approaching theory, Flip was able to break down some of his biggest hurdles and enjoy the frustration of simply becoming a better player.

Flip still enjoys teaching and playing with friends around the Kansas City area.

A special thanks to Scotty McBee who, while teaching his daughter drums, mentioned that Jerry's Bait Shop was starting a Wednesday night jam session ( Februrary 2001 or so) which is still alive and kicking today. This brought Flip out of his guitar hiatus of nearly 14 years and back into the world he enjoyed for so many years. Since then, it has been like Al Pacino, "they pulled me back in".
