FLIPSIDE is a new musical by composer Andrew Hertz and bookwriter/lyricist Mike Pettry.
"Thy small pipe
Is as the maiden's organ, shrill and sound,
And all is semblative a woman's part"
- Twelfth Night, Act I, scene 4
Loosely based on Twelfth Night, FLIPSIDE is the story of a young actor who pretends to be gay to get a cheap sublet. The actor, Robbie, falls in love with his roommate, Rachel, and Rachel's closeted boyfriend, Jamie, falls for Robbie, add to the mix Robbie's conservative father, two less-than-successful former aspiring stars, a precocious intern, and a drag queen named Hershey Kiss, and hilarity ensues.
Enter the world of FLIPSIDE, where people go to extremes to figure out who they are.
FLIPSIDE is the winner of a 2007 Frederick Loewe Foundation Award, which provided a professional reading for the piece at the Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program in March, 2007.
