Prince, Sting, Pre-insanity Michael, Stevie, Donnie, George Clinton, Parliament, Sly and the Family Stone, The Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire. Bill Withers, and so on.... and so on....
Melody has always played an important part in the life of FL Jones. From performing for the amusement of his fathers' friends at the local barbershop at the age of 5, to singing backups for Celine Dion at a private party attended by statesman from around the world. The music has always come first. The music of his older siblings left a permanent mark on the development of this artist. There was a simple magic in Stevie, Donnie, Prince, Sly, and Parliament. the blue lights, the coconut incense and cocoa butter lotion, all of these sounds and smells can be found in his music.
Although a card carrying member of the hip-hop generation, FL was always more drawn to bands, live instrumentation, and musicality. He nurtured his love by getting a Bachelors degree in music and setting out for Atlanta to make his mark in the boy band "N'Sync" (Not the pop quintet)
After a few bad deals FL made the choice to move forward with his vision as a solo artist. He developed his performance skills in night clubs, theatres, cover bands, industrials, anywhere someone would ask him to sing. Always growing and moving forward, he began writing and producing demos for others. Developing his chops as a songwriter. When he felt he was ready he made the move to New York City.
6 months after arriving in New York, FL landed a role in the Australian Company of the Broadway musical "RENT" While in Australia FL got a taste of what it was like to be a star. The high profile show made him an Aussie sensation. He soon found himself performing as a solo artist n front of millions doing the national television circuit. Culminating in an interview and pictoral in Australian "Rolling Stone". After a year FL returned to the states where he did the show for another year and a half traveling around the world with the National Tour.
When he finally returned to New york he was ready to make his mark as an artist and by now an incredible songwriter. He formed "The Funky Basement Band (F.B.B.) and began performing in prestigious venues around the city. The Jazz standard, Le Bar Bat, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room. At the same time he scored the feature film "200 American". Providing the underscoring
With an airtight production by his partner and friend Michael Levy, the songs on the record combine the intensity of modern hip-hop with the musicality of the masters. Upbeat poignant, and funky, the new record shatters the notion of what is modern Urban Music.
