Have you ever wondered what the love child of an orgy including Quicksand, U2, Fugazi, Death Cab, Q and Not U, The Clash, Smashing Pumpkins, Charlie Parker and filmed by Sunny Day Real Estate would sound like? Well, OK. Most people haven’t but Flood of Fury did and they liked what they heard.
Capsized into a stale world of rock repetitiveness Flood of Fury emerged as an outlet for 4 musicians to express what they wanted hear. Intelligent post-hardcore based underground rock n’ roll referred to by some as “real” rock. This isn’t 3 chord staple uniform. This stuff is refreshing and powerful but still familiar enough to have a strong connection to a large listening base.
The members of Flood of Fury came together from other successful bands to form this project out of necessity of an outlet rather than planning. Front man Dick (A.K.A. David Giovacchini) emerged out of the East Coast punk/hardcore scene as a touring musician at age 15 and moved to Southern-California to form Dang with drummer Frankie (A.K.A. Steve Morgan). After Dang’s successes in numerous movie/ television soundtracks and trips abroad the two set out to form Flood of Fury in 2001. After playing the San Diego circuit for a short time the band soon got that attention of producer/engineer Steve Russell who’s work on various projects including P.O.D., Blindside, Crazy Town and Marcos Curiel’s new project Accident Experiment impressed the band and they began working on their new demo for 2004 at Big Fish Studios (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, Drive Like Jehu).
Rounding out the band with Tyrone (Wade Bridgewater) on bass and Enrique (Jon Garner) on guitar the band found an eclectic vibe that followed in the footsteps as a natural progression of the bands that influenced them such as Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Quicksand, Sunny Day Real Estate, Smashing Pumpkins and Death Cab for Cutie.
With the signally original voice of Giovacchini combined with the guitar work of bassist Wade and Guitarist Jon, who has a master’s degree in music theory, the band rocks a creatively refreshing musical hybrid that has come into its own. Really, what it comes down to is Rock music that hits you in the gut and brain at the same time.
Whatever is inspiring this band whether it is Politics, social reform, love or just a simple passion for music the bands live performances bring out the best in their sound. See what FOF is all about and see them for yourself. The music world has been waiting for its next rock breakthrough. Now it is time.
