About me: This ain't Motown...this is Flotown! A dot in the northwest corner of Alabama where Elvis dropped his first beat. The hometown of Sam Phiilps, the creator of Sun Records. The birthplace of W.C. Handy, father of the blues. Just read the liner notes of any 60's to 70's R & B, soul, or Rock-n-Roll. It was most likely recorded here in Florence, Alabama.
But all that is from a bygone era, left in the archives of museums and footnotes. Sure, there is still work produced here that reaches international acclaim. But how much of it actually contributes to the local artistic community? Lets face it, there is a war against culture here. Every art gallery downtown closed within a few months last year. This is a college town whose sole focus has become to create a retirement community.
So we, the Florence Poetry Slam, decided to change that. Brace yourself every month for a literary onslaught upon the senses. Get ready for poetry coming at you in 3-D.
Sign up begins @ 7:30pm. The open mike follows @ 8. Then the big show starts with a slam competition and featured
poet in between rounds.

Would love to get up to Florence sometime and be a part of this, and hopefully will one day. But are you aware of any poetry slams in the B'ham area or anywhere else in Bama? Montevallo is the only other one I know of. :(
O Lord, who hast hitherto supported me, enable me to proceed in this labor, & in the whole task of my present state; that when I shall render up, at the last day, an account of the talent committed to me, I may receive pardon, for the sake of Jesus Christ,
