    Have you been solicited online?

If you believe you have been inappropriately solicited online or find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, you should report it! There are different ways you can do this:

    • Tell your parent or parents.

    • Tell a trusted adult. This could be a friend, a teacher, a scout leader, a leader in your community, a coach, a member of law enforcement or a religious leader.

    • Tell one of the Advocates or volunteers giving the Attorney General’s CyberSafety presentation at your school.

    • Report the incident at the Attorney General’s anonymous tip line found at his SafeFlorida Website.

Is Your Friend in Cyber Danger?

Has he or she been acting differently lately? Do you suspect something is wrong? It could be that someone they have met online is “grooming” them and they don’t realize what is happening. Here are some of the things you should look out for:

    • Does your friend spend an unusual amount of time online chatting?

    • Has your friend stopped hanging out with you after school and on weekends?

    • Does your friend get anxious or upset if he or she is not able to get to a computer to chat or check e-mail?

    • Have you noticed a change in your friend’s personality?

    • Is your friend isolating him or herself from their friends and family?

    • Does your friend have a sudden influx of cash?

    • Is your friend getting gifts through the mail?

    • Is your friend exhausted because of being online all night?

    • Does your friend use a pre-paid phone card to make calls to that “special someone”?

    • Is your friend too attached to the cell phone or afraid to miss a call?

    • Ask the same questions of yourself. Are you getting groomed?

Bill McCollum's CyberSafety Presentation:

Welcome to our CyberCrime Unit's MySpace page. You are part of the technology generation and you will experience a limitless supply of information and entertainment on the internet. As you spend time on the internet, I want you to be safe. I want you to be knowledgeable of the hidden dangers when you post online, because some people out there are trying to lure you in and do you harm. These dangers are not limited to your computer. They are real, and some people will try to hurt you emotionally and physically. Be selective in the information you post or give out. “ASL” – Age, Sex, Location – are three of the most dangerous pieces of information to give out online. If you don’t know the people you're talking to online in real life, remember - they may not be who you think they are, and whatever you say or post, anybody can see. That includes colleges and future employers – something to consider as you get closer to graduation. Would they be left with a good impression if they read your MySpace or Facebook page? Remember, once the information is out there, you can’t get it back.

The key to solving this crisis has to be education. The internet is an important part of our lives and a valuable, entertaining and enriching resource for our students. But, like so many other tools we depend upon, we have to use the internet with caution and you need to learn ways to be safe and smart online.

In 2007, my CyberSafety Education Program debuted at middle and high schools across the state. During the interactive 50-minute PowerPoint-based presentation, students learn about the risks of and tactics used by online predators as well as what constitutes a cybercrime and how to report it. The program is presented by specially-trained members of the Attorney General’s team and has been endorsed by law enforcement, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida School Board Association, the Florida Association of School Administrators, the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, the Florida School Resource Officers Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Florida Sheriffs Association.

Who is eligible?
All middle and high schools, public and private, in the state of Florida.

How does my school sign up?
Your school principal received a unique password via mail and needs to log-on to www.safeflorida.net/safeschools (or click on the red school house on the left), to schedule a presentation.

Just read in a newspaper in BFE PA that some pedophile named Jester was put away for 9 to 21 years!!!! Makes me happy to know he's going to become someone's little punching bag in prison!  Just thought I would share some good news in our neck of the woods (pun not intended, lol).
