Join us on March 28, 2010 for Florida AIDS Walk beginning at Huizenga Plaza and continuing through downtown and beachfront Fort Lauderdale. Please stay tuned for updates and announcements about AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) initiatives in South Florida at www.FloridaAIDSWalk.org.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation set a goal to test 100,000 people for HIV worldwide by the end of 2009 with most of our efforts focused on doing our part to contribute to AHF’s World AIDS Day Ten Million Tests campaign. While we were busy launching our global LOVE Condoms campaign in July and August, it snuck up on us: we had already reached the 100,000 mark, far ahead of our original goal! Currently, AHF has tested 133,777 for HIV in 2009. Since knowing your status is the first step in fighting the spread of HIV, this is an important goal to have reached.
Testing Hours: Out of the Closet Thrift Store Testing Mon-Sat 12-7 PM and Sun 12-6 PM, 2097 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors
AHF Pharmacy, a not-for-profit pharmacy, was happy to have been a part of the hugely successful Long-Term HIV Survival Seminar: "How to Look and Stay Healthy While Living with HIV" at ArtServe Auditorium, sponsored by Red Hispana Florida. Expert guest speaker, Nelson Vergel, was brought in from Texas to speak at the event. Nelson runs a wellness center, Poz Health Support online group, and is a well-regarded author, AIDS activist and lecturer.
AHF is pleased to be offering a new service to South Florida: Free screening and treatment of HIV and other STDs, as well as a whole battery of sexual health and treatment services in one location. The AHF NorthPoint Men's Wellness Center located at 6405 N. Federal Hwy., Suite 205 in the Imperial Point Hospital Medical Office Building, is now offering free HIV and STD screenings and treatment, as well as treatment for syphilis, gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Hours of service are Monday and Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 PM. No appointment is necessary.
"As AHF expands its roster of health care services in Florida, we are proud to offer targeted men's wellness services at AHF NorthPoint Healthcare Center in Ft. Lauderdale," said Michael Kahane, AIDS Healthcare Foundation's Bureau Chief, Southern Region. "Like all of the programs offered by AHF's Public Health Division, the Men's Wellness Center is designed to increase awareness, reduce risk and, if necessary, provide linkage to treatment services. It is comprehensive care in one location--a kind of 'one-stop shopping' for all of one's sexual health care needs."
Testing Hours: Men's Wellness Center Testing Mon and Thurs 5-7 PM, 6405 N. Federal Hwy, Ste. 205

We are a small but mighty group of volunteers who love animals. Our mission is to try to save the many adoptable dogs and cats that are found, abused, abandoned or surrendered, who would otherwise be taken to a kill-shelter. We will not euthanize because the vet bill is anticipated to be exorbitant or if the pet is considered by some, to be too old to be adopted. Click here for more information.
