Gary Williams - Novelist's Interests
|
| General | Hobbies? Writing, reading, Jacksonville Jaguars football, darts, Michelob, live music, history
| | Music | Wide variety from Godsmack to Gordon Lightfoot, Linkin Park to Pink Floyd, Hoobastank to Billy Joel, Papa Roach to Deep Purple . . . Oh, and if you live in Northeast Florida, be sure to check out Big Al & the Kaholics - www.kaholics.com - Jacksonville's Ultimate Party band. As they say, the more you drink, the better they sound!
| | Movies | Raiders of the Lost Ark, Castaway, The Long Kiss Goodnight (a real sleeper!), The Mummy (with Brendan Frasier), Snatch, most any "B" horror movie (there's no greater enjoyment than making fun of them), Spiderman, Animal House, Pulp Fiction, Peacemaker (George Clooney and Nicole Kidman - another sleeper.) Baseket Ball with the creators of South Park. (Okay, I admit . . . I love non-cerebral humor), The Matrix, Underworld(s), JAWS, Back to the Future . . . I better stop. I could go on for awhile.
| | Television | Lost (Hooked like everyone else, even though I'm convinced the writers are only 4-5 episodes ahead on the plot), Ghost Hunters, Deadliest Catch, Scrubs - now that's one creatively funny show.
| | Books | Brimstone, Dance of Death, & Book of the Dead - Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Actually, most Preston & Child novels. Dan Brown's Angels & Demons. (Yeah, I liked The Da Vinci Code but this one is the prequel and a better story.) James Rollin's Amazonia. Stephen King - particularly his early work. John Saul, Dean Koontz, Richard Laymon, John Grisham (again, his earlier novels), Bentley Little, Wilbur Smith. Matthew Reilly (The guy never allows you to catch your breath.) Just finished Brad Meltzer's latest novel, "The Book of Fate." It was good but I was expecting a stronger tie to the Freemasons -- as the cover had advertised. I also just finished Orson Scott Card's, "Ender's Game." I read it based on recommendations from my sons. I'm not normally into SciFi reads, but this one is a classic. I didn't see the ending coming and I can usually sniff out the surprises. Now reading Steve Berry's "Alexandria Link." I waited for it to come out in paperback. The reviews on Amazon we're up and down, but it has that mysterious historical background, so I'm going to give it a chance. Also, reading Christopher Moore's "Lamb" which was given to me for Christmas by my friend, McBabs. It's seriously humorous stuff.
Finished Preston & Child's "Wheel of Darkness" not long ago. Another novel in the Pendergast saga. I'd be interested to hear others' opinions on this book. I have mixed feelings about it.

Gary Williams - Novelist's Blurbs |
About me:
Along with my writing partner, Vicky Knerly, look for our first novel to be published in 2010. It's provisionally titled, Relentless. (Although Dean Koontz recently released a novel with the same name, so I'm sure the publisher will have us change it.) Feel free to befriend us at our professional page, www.myspace.com/williamsknerly.
As for me, I'm just here loving life in Jacksonville, Florida. A senior manager at a Fortune 500 company by day, a novelist by night. Some other things about me: I shun drama (and I'm not talking about the genre of TV shows or movies); I support the military (I may not always agree with why we're fighting, but I damn sure support the soldiers being asked to serve their country); I love dogs (I endure cats); I have a warped sense of humor (Everything from the Three Stooges to Jackass); I will give you my honest opinion about any topic (including writers who ask me to review their work); I live for the weekends when I can write, spend time with the family (and drink beer); I love the local history of Florida (and the unsolved mysteries therein); and lastly, I love those folks who have the courage to read a novel even when they've never heard of the author before. (Personally, I'd never do it. lol)
Favorite local band? Big Al & the Kaholics. These guy play both cover and originals, everything from Puddle of Mud, to 311, to Metallica, to Linkin Park, to Chicago, to KC and the Sunshine Band, to ACDC, to Staind. As a matter of fact, they take request and know every song every written. (At least the first 8 to 10 bars!) And they're not just four great muscians, they're Jacksonville Florida's Ultimate Party Band. (Or at least that's what their logo says!) They draw anyone 21 and up to their shows. Go to www.kaholics.com for information about their CD Hype and where they'll be performing next.
