About me: The Florida Youth Council is a group of youth (age 13-17) and emerging leaders (age 18-30) with disabilities or special health care needs that live in Florida.
The FYC is all about getting youth and emerging leaders involved in self-advocacy, peer mentoring and other activities that will improve the quality of life for youth and emerging leaders with disabilities in Florida. The program empowers youth and emerging leaders to decide what issues are important to their generation, to express those issues in their state and local communities, and to develop strategies to solve them.
The Florida Youth Council will offer myriad opportunities for interested youth and emerging leaders to participate, including an Annual Youth Summit, program content at The Family Café Annual Conference, a program Newsletter in both electronic and print formats, and a comprehensive online outreach program that takes advantage the power of social networking.

News > Surveys and Studies Effects of Athletics on Activities of Daily Living, Depression and Self-efficacy in Individuals After Spinal Cord Injury:
Researchers at the University of Kentucky invite you to participate in this research study and to help us understand how athletics and participation in sports influences perceived exertion with activities of daily living, mood, level of depression and the feeling of self-worth. We will also examine the most common reasons why people are unable to participate in sports and evaluate options to overcome those barriers.
You will receive a small stipend for your time. Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. You will not be personally identified in these written materials. We may publish the results of this study; however, we will keep your name and other identifying information private.
The research procedures will be conducted at the University of Kentucky and Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, however we will include volunteers with spinal cord injuries nationwide. You will not need to come to the University of Kentucky, however you will be asked to fill out a number of questionnaires and will be asked to send those back to our team.
You will receive this questionnaire by mail or in person with a self-addressed, stamped return envelope resulting in no cost for you.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Dr. Silke Bernert or Dr. Sara Salles, Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, 2050 Versailles Road, Lexington, Kentucky 40504, by phone (859) 257 4888 or by email: athleticssci@gmail.com .

nvm that's British sign, its very different. there sign has less grammar rules, ASL has more rules that go with the gammer. so my automatic guess is that our hearing impaired community is doing great. we need to start an international youth council and bring people together... that's my dream lol.... there is also an enforced sign that i was taught at a school in Chicago. i was 2 years old when i learned SSE. (signed exact english) i moved to Florida and was exposed to ASL. it "simplified" my signing. now i am inter-graded with all sorts of different signs. i got 2 or 3 signs for every word. so depending where the person is from i switch.
