The voice of a husky angel soaring above a solid, rhythmic and catchy guitar.
“soulful originals (...) That's why Flo is the number one local treasure!” - Andy O’Hare, the Hare Piece, BBC Hereford & Worcester.
Flo Rowland cut her musical teeth at the age of 15 fronting Worcester grunge-survivalists Five Percent, before going on to be lead singer and lyricist for the prog-funk outfit Meridian Point. Through all this she still managed to write and perform her own brand of solo acoustic music, drawing on all the influence she’d been exposed to in order to create her own individual style.
Self-described as “The voice of a husky angel, soaring over a rhythmic and catchy guitar”, she has been described by others as having tunes which are “ballsy and raw” with a voice that ranges from “femininely sweet to savagely dusky depending on the moment, and the theme”
However you choose to describe her one thing can be agreed upon, and that is the level of success she has achieved over the last 18 months. Flo brought her penchant for the acoustically diverse to the main stage of the Chickenstock Festival in 2007, wowing the early morning audience and providing the perfect start to the last day of revelries. From there, and completely under her own steam, Flo has gone on to play all over the Midlands, gracing the stage and entertaining crowds in venues throughout Coventry, Nottingham and Birmingham; as well as gigs closer to home in Worcester, Stratford and Stourport.
2008 saw her break through on to BBC Hereford & Worcester, performing live on the Friday Introducing Session, part of the BBC Introducing brand. This performance got her a call back to headline the BBC Live stage at the Worcester Music Festival; a festival at which she played five different gigs over three days such was the demand for her appearances.
Hi Flo,I'm hoping to come along to your open mic night sometime in the future.I really like your stuff, nice electronica appearing on that first tune.Keep it up!
HI Flo Thanks for having us on last night at Get The Pluck Up. We enjoyed it. Hope we can do it again . Thanks also for the venue advice. Hope to see you soon xx
Well, it is my birthday on Thursday and I have no idea what the family have in store - not a lot I expect... so your invite is very, very tempting. Thank you.
I will check with Noor Ali to see what he is up to on Thursday night. If he is free and the family have not got a surprise in store (????), perhaps Stompin' On Spiders could pop their Pluck-Up cherry (figuratively speaking of course!)
The trouble with The Abbot, he has not produced anything new of recent, so it might be the same old stuff if he comes on his own.... We'll see....
All being well, see you Thursday as a Spider, as L'abbot or as me.

that'd actually be really handy, we're trying to book as many out of town shows as possible for between now and october to promote the demo we're about to release, and a bit of advice on which promoters would be good to get in touch with would be really really helpful! thanks x
