These are rarely evident. Take them for what they are worth. Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, The Broadways, Jawbreaker, Fifteen, Social Distortion, Millencolin, Bad Religion, The Loved Ones. This list is certainly not comprehensive, but is rather an approximation of what we were listening to the most while our songs were written.
Formed out of the no longer smoldering ashes of youthful Pennsylvanian suburban pop-punk endeavors we're sure no one's ever heard of (Because we can't even recall precisely the list of failed projects ourselves), Floundering brings to the table a frustration that is so vivid and real -- these guys are pissed -- that you can't help but feel what they have been feeling. Their anger knows no bounds, ranging from rage associated with the sorry shape of the world, the music industry, girls and even with themselves. Sure, you've heard bands with higher production quality and possessive of more trained vocalists, but let us not forget that music always has been, and always will be, first and foremost, the audio realm of the arts. This is art. The uniqueness in desperation is what should strike you first about any group of young people trying to espouse their frustrations with the world through musical endeavors. Before you bring down the heavy hand of criticism, consider this: Floundering is two people, long time close friends Jon Hurst and Alex Feeman. Alex has only been playing drums on and off for about eight months, and neither of them has owned a bass guitar until Alex picked up a bargain rate SX for $100 a year ago. Also consider: The seven songs on "Rough Around the Edges" were recorded entirely by the band themselves over the course of just three evenings in January of 2007 in Alex's basement at no cost. This is DIY. This might read like a defense of an inferior product, and depending on your level of snobbery, might very well be one. However, as is often times pleaded of young people, retain an open mind. You might find yourself to also be "floundering" in the young 21st century. Alex Feeman and Jon Hurst have written, perfected and recorded the songs. All you have to do is listen to them. Please do, and enjoy.
As for now, we're working on getting this page up and running to bring you something to listen to. In the mean time, feel free to add us to your list of myspace pals and inquire about our newly recorded EP "Rough Around the Edges".
Take care and stay safe.
