Effortlessly blending the traditional elements of indie, punk, rock, and metal with raw energy and emotion, Flowers For Lily have created a uniquely dark and melodic sound that majestically surpasses the preceding alternative underground.
The band has quickly caught national attention by landing a spot at the Gold Coast Big Day Out in 2009, as well as being nominated for an Independent Music Award, an international honour sought after by bands from six continents.
Releasing the 'A Name Will Come' EP in 2008, the four-piece have since supported Mz Ann Thropik who commented “Super tight musicians…singers voice gave me shivers and made my heart cry.” Songs from the EP (Cemetery Forest and Brand New Blinded) have appeared on the ‘Lip Service’ soundtrack; their music has also featured on 'Powercruise' DVDs 14 & 15, as well as BLUNT Magazine's "LOUD NOISES" collection.
On vocals and guitar is the passionate and unyielding presence of Jimmy Sky. Involved in music since the age of 12 Jimmy Sky has written well over 100 songs. He is also an avid writer, poet, photographer and painter. Some maintain he is over 254 years old though he strongly refutes these claims.
On bass is co-founder Yaan Dalzell, son of Johnny ‘Tatt’ Dalzell (bass player for Johnny Diesel and the Injectors). 13 years of playing have opened him up to a wide range of influences. "Music is how I communicate," he states matter-of-factly. "You can convey love, hurt, happiness, anger, all in one song and I love it."
On Guitar is Greg Cameron. By the tender age of 21 Cameron had already travelled the world gaining invaluable experience and inspiration. He has played guitar for 14 years and featured in various punk and metal bands including a recent appearance at ‘Cruebash’, Coolangatta’s notorious Motley Crue tribute night.
Joining Flowers For Lily on drums is veteran performer Bryan Macaranas.
Bryan started playing at the late age of 17 when the curiousity of actually
hitting drums rather than tables and chairs became too much. Bryan's history
includes support slots for The Screaming Jets, The Cruel Sea, Resin Dogs
and Steve Vai in his band 'Glockenspiel'. Bryan is endorsed by Mapex Drums
and Meinl cymbals, and has recently taken up listening to Flowers For Lily
demo tracks on repeat, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
2009 will see Flowers for Lily play an array of live shows to their adoring and ever-expanding fanbase. They will also begin penning songs for their upcoming debut album.
