Stacie Boschma says things. With a slightly skewed worldview and well-worn heart, her work chronicles the day to day intersection of funny and tender. She focuses on the good stuff – the moments that we all replay in our minds over and over, using poetry and its performance as a kind of emotional photography.
Stacie has toured widely, featuring at readings and events from Washington DC, to Savannah, Georgia, to Vancouver, British Columbia, and all Omahas in between. She loves teaming up with poets, musicians, and bands, and has shared stages with artists like Athens Boys Choir, Sini Anderson, Bitch, and Julie Schurr.
An old hand in the southeastern Poetry Slam scene, Stacie has competed at various regional and national events, including the National Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam. Her engaging stage presence and easy rapport with audiences makes her a sought-after emcee, and she has hosted events ranging from Atlanta’s Art Amok art parties to local team selection Slams in Atlanta and Knoxville. She has also hosted at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in Detroit, and was proud to emcee Atlanta Pride’s inaugural Pride ShoutOut Poetry Slam in 2008.
As a writer, she finds the odd angle into any topic at hand, crafting a cleverly pointed body of political work that takes on the status quo through the eyes of a resident of Gotham City, or mocking the sedative nature of our contemporary political language in “Freedom.” In explorations of love and sex, her work strikes a pitch-perfect balance between poignant and funny. “There’s no secret to my art,” Stacie says. “I’m really just trying to figure things out.”
In addition to her stage work, Stacie’s poetry has appeared in OCHO, Labrys, Limp Wrist Magazine, Oranges & Sardines, The Pedestal Magazine, and the anthology, “Look, Up In The Sky!”
