Steve Baxter, lead vocals, bass, guitar, hails from Tennessee and brings his superb vocal talent to Flumewater. Steve grew up singing in church and has an encyclopedic knowledge of country and rock material.
John Goss, who plays guitar, bass and harmonica in addition to vocals, made a musical name for himself around Creede by playing in duets for Creede Arts Council events. He later played in the 5-piece band, Highway 149 from 1999-2002. He later played with the trio, 8852 in 2003.
Courtney La Zier plays lead and rhythm guitar and started his musical journey working as an engineer in a recording studio at age 14. He has played guitar since then and has played in bands such as, Smart Alice and the Dead Sea Squirrels at Eastern Illinois University. He owns Big River Music in South Fork, CO.
Jim Turnbull grew up in San Diego, CA and got his first drum kit at age seven. Jim studied rudiments in the La Mesa Drum Corps until age 10. Jim’s first rock band was formed in Jr. High. He later studied under San Diego State University percussionist, Danley Mitchell. Jim played in a variety of bands from funk to progressive rock until age 21 when he started college. After a 30- year lay-off from playing drums, he is back behind the kit with Flumewater.

San Luis Valley band, Flumewater, was created in the winter of 2004 by John Goss, Steve Baxter and Derrick Clifton of Creede, CO. Courtney La Zier joined on lead guitar in the fall of 2005. In the summer of 2006, Derrick moved to Tennessee and was replaced by Jim Turnbull on drums.
Flumewater’s repertoire covers rock, blues and progressive country. Old favorites by the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix are presented alongside gems from lesser-known songwriters like Buddy Miller, Guy Clark and Fred Eaglesmith. Each member of Flumewater writes original songs as well. Flumewater prides itself on strong vocal harmonies, in-the-pocket rhythms and its exhilarating live show. They are currently recording their first CD.
Hey there – FGC is hitting Colorado this week for a run of four great shows! Not one, but TWO, appearances at Denver’s Dancin’ in the Streets Fest August 7-9, including a Friday latenight at Quixote’s, and a Sunday evening performance between Leftover Salmon’s sets. We’ll also make our debut at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre near Fort Collins on Saturday, and return to 320 South in Breckenridge for a show with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band the following Tuesday.
