“Its about time someone comes around and brings the Singapore music to a whole new exciting level, and Flybar does just that!” Leonard Soosay, renowned recording producer.
Formed in 2006, Flybar released their debut album “ Scream Without Raising Your Voice” in 2008, filled with ultra-catchy, Beatles-esque tunes and incorporatin hints of many other music elements not usually associated with rock music: harmonica, electronic beats, saxophone solos and much more. Amongst the many accolades the band has received, Flybar, consisting of Ian Toh (vocals), Deon (drums), Yado (Bass), Ben (guitars) and *Jon Ong (guitars 2007-2009), won the World Battle of the Bands within 3 months of its conception, representing Singapore in Hong Kong in the World Battle of the Bands International Finals 2006 which was transmitted 'Live' internationally via QQ.com and also supported by Channel V. They have shared the stage with Asia rock giants Rivermaya and internationally acclaimed act Jet at Fort Canning Park.
The band's debut album,“Scream Without Raising Your Voice” was produced at Snakeweed Acoustic Labs by Leonard Soosay. Combined with the mastering expertise of well known mastering guru Stephen Marcussen, the tracks have turned quite a number of heads among people who are actively involved in the development of Singapore's unique musical landscape. It's album launch (2008) saw a sold out concert featuring a percussionist and a 4 piece string section in the Esplanade Recital Studio and proved most successful. Currently the album is still for sale, along with its merchandise at the Esplanade Shop; or at any Flybar gig.
Recently in 2009, the band parted ways with lead guitarist Jonathan Ong Chung Siong (2007-2009). Jon recorded with the Flybar on its debut album and also won the World Battle of the Bands 2006 Singapore Leg with the band. With a heavy heart, the band thanks Jon for his phenomenal contribution and wishes him all the best for his future endeavors. The above tracks in the play list, "Beautiful Killer", "Unforgiven", "Mystery Train" and "She's So Lazy" were all recorded with him, along with the full album. At the same time, we would like to introduce our 2 newest members, Mark Anthony Ng and Junhong.
Taking on new influences, the band is now in the process of writing songs and recording demos for future release. The new songs which are yet to released promise to be a step up with the band maturing into their own. Currently, its new instrumental demo for Lives (2009) is up on myspace.com/flybartheband, and its actual demo release will be in late September 2009, so watch out for that.
