This month’s URBAN JUKE JOINT hosts its annual “SISTAH CYPHER”, an all womyns open mic that gives honor and respect to all our sistah poets, sistah emcees, sistah musicians, and sistahs period. Kicking off the night will be our feature artist MYISHA CHERRY, a renaissance woman who lives life as a Writer, Minister, Educator, Performance Poet, Guitarist, Songwriter, and more. Myisha will perform a set starting at 9PM.
Then stick around for the open mic hosted by the witty and engaging CHRIS PHOENIX where you can spit, sing, or rhyme your own truths. Sign up begins at 8:30. (Sorry brothas, but this month is just for the women. But please come and support our dearly loved sistahs. The mic goes “co-ed” in April). One poem or song limit please (no more than four minutes). The Juke Joint asks all artists to please refrain from using any profanity or explicit material. There are a limited number of slots available for the open mic. Once the list has been filled, any artists who still wish to sign up will go on "stand-by" and may be able to perform if time permits.
Whether you are a returning old head or a first-time participant, you are most welcome to join our family and vibe, spit, laugh, cry, stomp your feet, snap your fingers, and just BE...human.
