About me:

Image Hosting

I'm an author living in San Francisco. My books are the novels The Year of Fog and Dream of the Blue Room, and the story collection The Girl in the Fall-Away Dress. A new novel, No One You Know, will be published in 2008. The Year of Fog is currently in development with Newmarket Films. Read an excerpt here.

I grew up in Mobile, Alabama and moved to San Francisco from New York City nine years ago. Until recently I taught in the MFA program in creative writing at California College of the Arts, but I've decided to take a few years off from teaching in order to write full time. I am currently at work on a new novel, which will be published by Bantam.

I woman stopped me ... She said that she had to come by. She had met a woman on the bus who told her where to get them... She bought. She loved. She thanked. Was that woman on the bus, you? If so, thank you!

Thanks for the add! My 3-year-old son heard Bob Marley on the radio this morning and asked me if "Buffalo Soldier" was a good song. I assured him it was. Now if he'd only sit still for Bruce!

Thanks for the add. I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts.

This is the fusion of science and spirituality...

"Science, politics, economics and spirituality fuse explosively in this visionary thriller. In some far future--or is it past?--Philip K. Dick nods with satisfaction."

Hi Michelle,
I just had to tell you how much I loved 'The year in Fog'!
It's definitely the kind of book that once you start reading you just won't want to put it down.
I love how the book is set in the San Francisco bay area-
When you described the feel of the fog and the smell of the salty breeze from the ocean~ I felt like I was right there on the beach feeling that SF breeze ~
Your description was so clear ~ as I was reading I could almost smell the salty air and feel that cold wind blowing on my face ~
It was pretty cool being familiar with the places and the settings mentioned in the book! (I knew where I was when following Abby around)
~ I felt for Jake and Abby for the grief and heart wrenching pain they felt ~ the 'not knowing' where the child is ...
***
~ I usually read late in the evening when my son is asleep and all is quiet in the house~
More than once I had to stop reading for a moment so that I could peek in on him to make sure that he was ok and to give him another goodnight kiss
and whisper "I Love you pook"
~ When I read the last page and the book was finished ... I felt kinda sad ... I have grown fond of Abby and will miss her. ~
'A year in Fog' Is a book I will definitely recommend to my friends .................................

Hi Michelle,
I hope you are enjoying this nice long weekend :O)
We just got home from Rio Nido & it was beautiful. I started reading 'the year of fog' I didn't want to stop reading..... but I had to get back to San Mateo (back to reality) I can't wait until I get some
"me time" so I can read more....
Michelle, you have written a definite winner!! I think that Oprah should include this in her book club.
Best wishes to you!

Hi Michelle, thanks for the add! I just finished The Year of Fog and was blown away. As a writer myself (not yet published) I am always in awe of other writers who seem to have that natural gift of language. The way you weave your sentences throughout the book, etc. You are very talented! Oh, and p.s. I loved the story too! lol! I have a strange fascination with stories about child abduction. I guess because it has got to be one of the worst things that can happen to a parent.

Thanks for finding us. Being from
Alabama (and now living in San Francisco)- we hope that you enjoy old time & bluegrass music! Congratulations on "The Year of Fog" being published. I think that it might just be my upcoming pick for my neighborhood bookgroup. What a perfect title for a story that's set in San Francisco. You should come to Powell's Books in Portland, OR - on your book tour - it's a great bookstore!
Best wishes - April
