"Folk @ The Moon" along with its sister night, "Last Exit @ The Moon", has established itself over the past 12 months as South London's premier folk & americana evening. Held on the first Friday of every month at the legendary Half Moon in Herne Hill, the "Folk @ The Moon" sessions have seen some of the very best performers on the London folk circuit today. Focusing on the rising stars of the folk, country, and americana world, you can find some of the names of the artists who've already performed in the influences column. The nights are hosted by Harrisburg (that's me) and his band of helpers and there are always 4 acts and a live DJ all rolled in for a fiver. For those of you who have never been to The Half Moon, it's one of South London's top venues and has easily the best sound system. The venue has a capacity of 220 and has hosted the likes of U2, Van Morrison, The Police, Rory Gallagher, & The Wonder Stuff in years gone by.
Whilst I'm always keen to hear new music it should be noted that this is no ordinary pub gig. This is a concert hall designed for big crowds and artists should consider the names in the influences column before getting in touch. If you don't have a following it's best not asking for a gig. I will always look at an artist's gig history and upcoming gigs before booking them. As a guideline, I would say that London-based artists should be playing venues such as The Green Note, The Electroacoustic Club, The Easycome Acoustic Club, The Betsy Trotwood, Boogaloo, The Old Queen's Head, The Buffalo Bar, The 12 Bar, Monkey Chews, Hooked On Wednesdays, Come Down Meet The Folks, What's Cookin', The Red Rooms, etc. If you are not at least at this stage of your gigging career it's very unlikely I'll be able to book you.
Oh, and you will get paid. This is not the Dublin Castle. The bigger the crowd the bigger the payment but as a gigging musician I'm confident there are very few venues/promoters who are as fair as I am. We need to return the power to the people who create the songs we all love. And to do that we need people coming through the door so please come down to one of my nights. You won't regret it.
