"One hallmark of good songs is that they not only stand up to repeat listening, but that the listener finds something fresh, exciting or inspirational with each new hearing. And Camela Widad Kraemer's songs have that very magical quality. Whether she's singing a meditation about the soul's longing for the beloved, or her bloodrushing upbeat number about an empire created by the coffee bean that makes you want to get up and dance - "Before You're Gone" is one of those rare albums that will continue to grow on you."
Butch Kara - KZGM - Pacifica Radio
"Kraemer's graceful, confident vocals, that at times sounds like a hybrid of Natalie Merchant and Fiona Apple, draw in listeners with her melodies and gutsy sound, makng them forget that they're listening to anything other than an amazing folk-rock band. The inspirational lyrical content comes through on each song. A must listen for fans of folk-rock."
Tiffany Razzano - Indie-Music.com 'Food for the Traveler' review (May 6, 2006)
BEFORE YOU'RE GONE copyright - 2009
Sweeping from raw, rock arrangements, into sparse, low, raspy crooning, Camela sounds as if she's whispering secrets into your ear one minute then pounding your heart, beckoning it to open, the next. Before You're Gone" marks Camela's fourth studio release and her fifth album to date.
Following her career and music, 'Before You're Gone" displays a seasoned songwriting beckoning the depths of despair and hopeless endeavors to come out into the open, sung with the unapologetic, fervent, tell tale vocals Camela has become known for. Songs display a subtle comfort and dizzying passionate longing for something one can never get filled and at the same time reveling in the simple love life hands to you when you're not looking.
FOOD FOR THE TRAVELER copyright - 2005
Rock, folk, jazz, blues mixed up in a warm cup of spicy tea would give you a taste of this inspiring, positive mix of passionate vocals, sweet harmonies and rocking full band songs for playing loud in your car with the windows down.
CALL TO THE SOUL copyright - 2001
Camela's only completely acoustic album, has a presence of warmth and strength that comes through clear as if an old friend was gently singing to you. This music gives lyrical wisdom, syncopated rhythms, unique orchestration and a daring accapella duet on "One Love". Call to the Soul was her 2nd album and contains her burgeoning songwriting with storytelling flair.
EVE copyright - 1999
Inspiring, clever & risky, "Eve" delivers a variety of styles while staying true to bluesy, soulful roots. Camela's debut album was recorded on a shoe-string budget, completing the entire recording in two full days, then picked up with her manager to Austin, TX to find herself on the radio and T.V. within a month.
Recorded with a core of talented musicians, who's influences color this album with sounds from hard-rock, to African rhythms, sweet harmonies, to Middle Eastern & earthy riffs. It is raw, full of questions, confrontations, and raspy vocals. Yet the sweetness Camela is known for stays intact in songs "Moving", "Tide of the Moon", and "Lotus".
Her Story…
Folk, Rock, Rhythm, Mystic mixed up in a cup of spicy tea, with a raspy voice, some growls thrown in for good measure and a big scoop of longing.
“Camela Widad Kraemer (pronounced “KAM *ell*laa” “WIH*dod” “KRAY*mer”), has battled some demons. Not the demons of drugs, abuse or self-loathing. Along her travels through musicianship she has had to determine whether to conform to the prosaic formula of the singer-songwriter or prominently display the middle finger of the washed-up “good-ol-days” rocker. Thankfully, she has chosen neither. Instead, she mixes the melancholy mystery of life’s endless questions with the joy and simple pleasure of answers when they are found. Her music allows the listener to experience a space in time where one gives up trying to uncover and live within the secret of happiness and embraces their sublime slice of singularity. Beware, demons of peace dwell there!” Colby Miller – PSU-Dickinson Law Student
Camela started her career in entertaining as an actor. While traveling the country from job to job as an actor, music kept finding its way to her, songwriting with bands, with other solo songwriters and hitting the open mic scenes in cities like Austin, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She has had music training since she was 6 & vocal training since she was 9, but choosing the life of a musician never hit her until she was singing pop cover songs with a theatre company in 1999. After so much response from her shows she dusted off some songs sitting on the shelf and within 3 months she had a band and was in the studio recording, with a manager soon to follow.
Another three months later, Camela celebrated the release of her first album ‘Eve’ with a move and a new beginning in Austin, TX. Soon playing a regular gig in Austin, TX, she appeared live on KUT radio and an appearance on the Austin Music Network. Still seeking more experience and exploring her sound she decided to go to Los Angeles, continuing to learn the business of the music industry that was changing very quickly.
Since then, Camela has independently released 3 more albums including her most recent ‘Before You're Gone’, released in June 2009. She has performed for large festivals, intimate venues, solo and with her band, performing all over the US and in Britain. She has played the Berkshire Mountain Music Festival, American Music Festival, Susquehanna Folk Music Society, The Crooked Bar/LA, Fat Tuesday’s/Austin, Songwriter Circles, pubs, coffee houses and bars. She has released four studio albums and one children’s home recording. She is also the founder of the Unity Music Festival an annual music and arts festival bringing together music and art with deep roots of unity. http://www.TheUnityMusicFestival.com
“I look forward to the song. When it comes through it’s like a new baby that needs to be fed, nurtured, cared for. When a song is ready and has it’s own life. Sharing this jewel and surrendering to how it speaks to the listener, is the reason I am a musician, an artist and a lover of creativity.” Camela Widad Kraemer
