Interests

  • General

Social Justice, the arts (all of them), poetry and other literature, world peace, cooking, working class politics, entertaining, living as full a life as possible. God, I can be so pompous.
  • Music

Duke Ellington said there was only two kinds of music: Good Music and Bad Music. I think there's only music I understand and music I don't. I tend to like the music I understand but I respect most of the kind I don't understand.
  • Movies

Working 12+ hours a day limits my movie going though I am making an effort to go to more. I will say that Bladerunner is the best Sci-Fi movie every made. The best baseball movie is The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (now on DVD) To understand economic refuges from rural areas like myself you have to see Going Down the Road. And Citizen Kane is way overrated.
  • Television

Homicide: Life on the Street, Max Headroom and Frank's Place are the best TV programs ever. Note: I grew up without TV (or electricity) so I missed out on a lot. Probably just as well.
  • Books

Even though her books are thinly disguised social commentary, Barbara Neely is my favorite mystery writer. My favorite book of poetry is Tom McGrath's Letter to an Imaginary Friend. And my favorite book overall is Various Persons Named Kevin O'Brian by Alden Nowlin because it explained what happend to me when ever I went back to that pocket of rural poverty I grew up in.
  • Heroes

Like Brian McNeill said "No gods and precious few heros."

Blurbs

About me:

I'm a middle aged (if I live to be 100+) former disk jockey. I have an insanely large collection of recorded folk music in almost every audio format ever invented. I also collect Maccaferri guitars and other instruments (yes, the plastic ones) and old (pre-1990) home computers. I'm also interested in Negro League Baseball and just about anything else that crosses my path.

Who I'd like to meet:

John Tams, Bill Caddick, Shirley Collins, Ashley Hutchings... I know it's a small list but after 30+ years in radio I've at least interviewed everyone else.

    Hey Dave,
It has been a tough week. Made some progress though on the copy work. Seth is sending new master of CD with the guitar back in 'Bay of Mexico'. Can't wait to hear how it works... or not. I will try to see you tomorrow.
    Best,
    Chris
