Founded by an electrical engineer and a social worker, it only makes sense that New Belgium has always looked for ways to be energy efficient and socially responsible. Through embracing new technologies, seeking out alternative forms of energy and reducing our waste stream, we strive to make smart business decisions and do well by the environment each and every day. We are currently focused on the following areas of environmental balance. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction • In 1998, New Belgium took an employee vote and decided to commit to being the nation’s first 100% wind-powered brewery. The decision came after our engineers, looking to minimize CO2 emissions, discovered that city’s power plant, which supplied the brewery with electricity, created the bulk of our emissions. Employee owners voted to dip into their bonus pool to help finance the conversion. Healthy Watersheds • Water is a key ingredient of beer. Water is also a key ingredient of life, ergo beer is a key ingredient of life (well – that’s a stretch, but it’s a mighty fine thing). Water conservation may well be the critical environmental concern in the western U.S. As brewers, we need to take that seriously. Through recapture and reuse, New Belgium has nearly halved the industry average of using eight barrels of water to produce one barrel of beer. Green Building • New Belgium has been a long-time participant in green building techniques. With each expansion of our facility we have incorporated new technologies and learned a few lessons along the way. In 2002 we agreed to participate in the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) pilot program. From sun tubes and daylighting throughout the facility to reusing heat in the brewhouse, we continue to search out new ways to close loops and conserve resources. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle • The three "R's" of being an environmental steward. Our reuse program includes heat for the brewing process, cleaning chemicals, water and much more. Recycling at New Belgium takes on many forms, from turning "waste" products into something new and useful (like spent grain to cattle feed), to supporting the recycling market in creative ways (like turning our keg caps into table surfaces). We also buy recycled whenever we can, from paper to office furniture. Reduction surrounds us, from motion sensors on the lights throughout the building to induction fans that pull in cool winter air to chill our beers. Offsetting our energy needs is the cornerstone to being environmentally efficient. Living Sustainably • Having our own Sustainability Coordinator – or Sustainability Goddess as we like to refer to Hillary – has given us access to all sorts of great information. If you want to learn more about any of the programs to which New Belgium subscribes or maybe you’d like to have wind power at your home.

Our TV Story Thanks for checking out our TV spots. Check out www.Newbelgium.com to take a sneak peek. It’s kind of funny that television has actually become one of the most honest means of advertising, but in the days of web pop-ups and covert product spokespeople, putting a story to film almost seems quaint. We worked on this project with our good friends at Amalgamated in New York who lead us to director Jake Scott. The vibe on the set was spontaneous and free-wheelin’ with all us beer wonks framing scenes with our hands and offering lighting tips to Jake - who nodded amiably and rolled his eyes. We shot in and around Hotchkiss and Paonia, Colorado – many thanks to all the folks who helped us out and made us feel at home in their beautiful slice of the world. We'd also like to thank Devendra Banhart for allowing us to use his remarkable music in our first foray into film. We have his entire collection and it'll make you laugh out loud as chills rush down your spine. Supergood. We found our actors, Charles as the Tinkerer and his lovely wife Jana, outside a bike shop in Boulder. Marc, who plays our fearless roadie, was also found loitering around a bike shop. See how easy it is to get discovered? We thank those folks for hanging tough over a long weekend fraught with four seasons’ worth of weather. One production note: The reggae-inspired number for the “joust” spot was an improvised session of New Belgium co-workers in a little barn house studio here in Fort Collins. Thanks Brandon, Jonnie, Phil and John – we hope you

OUR STORY Philanthropy :: Ownership :: Sustainability Our Story begins in Belgium not so long ago with our protagonist- a young American electrical engineer and homebrewer- biking his way across Europe.* Inspired by Belgian brewers' impressive pallet of ingredients (everything from lime leaves to raspberries are fair game) Jeff Lebesch returned to Colorado and began knocking out batches of Belgian-style homebrew. His first two creations- a brown dubbel named Abbey and a remarkably well-balanced amber he named Fat Tire in honor of his trip- scored high marks with friends and relatives. People loved the earthy undertones and estery nose of Abbey. They reveled in Fat Tire's biscuity balance. In fact, folks loved everything about that beer- except the name."'Fat Tire'?" they wondered aloud, "that's just goofy." Jeff smiled politely and carried on. Jeff and wife, Kim Jordan, decided to take their basement brewery operation commercial in 1991. Being the deep-thinking, quiet type – Jeff looked to the gregarious Kim to be his marketing arm (and local distributor, bottler, sales rep and Mom to their kids). “We had a neighbor paint watercolors that we printed up as beer labels,” Kim reminisces. “Jeff would brew, we would bottle together with some help from our son, Zack, then I would call accounts and deliver the beer. I’d get a lot of friendly ribbing pulling up in my station wagon full of beer next to these 16-bay Budweiser trucks." Soon Kim, Jeff and a blossoming crew outgrew the basement operation, then overflowed a second location in a railroad depot, and finally, in 1995, we designed ourselves a happy little home here at 500 Linden Street. Our current facility houses two Steinecker brewhouses, four quality assurance labs, and a wastewater treatment facility that allows us to cleanse our process waters and create our own energy (see technology and innovation). The entire operation is powered by wind after an employee-owner vote to make that conversion back in 1998. Flash forward to today and New Belgium Brewing Company of Fort Collins, Colorado is a diverse collection of exuberant brewers, microbiologists, artists, cowboys, musicians, and everyday folks. The philosophy on the side of our beer packaging still best captures the spirit of New Belgium: "In this box is our labor of love. We feel incredibly lucky to be creating something fine that enhances people's lives. Know that we think about you as we're making it- enjoying Trippel by the fire, splitting Fat Tire with a friend, offering Abbey Ale as a present. Enjoy! And stop by to let us know how it was. We'd love to see you!"

Kimle tanışmak isterim:

You! If you’ve never been to New Belgium you should really plan a trip. The folks in our Liquid Center (tasting room) are here to regale you with frothy tales of beer lore and legend. Find out how 1554 got its start in a crumbling, centuries-old text unearthed by our team of wild professors. Learn the secret behind the architect who inspired Biere de Mars. Taste from our portfolio along with a few surprises from our rotation of special releases, limited releases and off-the-radar, in-house-only beers. Tastings are free and come with the verbal lowdown from one or more of our illuminative and startlingly dashing crew. Take a guided tour. Please call (888) NBB-4044 for tour times and information. Guided tours are offered at 1, 2, and 3pm Tuesday through Friday and from 11-4 every hour on Saturdays. The tours are limited to fifteen people and are offered on a first come first serve basis. We recommend showing up early for tickets, especially on Saturday. Or, be the master of your own destiny with a self-guided tour any day, 10:00 until 6:00, except for Sunday and Monday

Type a random number between 1 and 100 then a dot and then type your favorite food and then a dot and then type your current mood and then a dot and then type "retwistic" (without the quotes) and then a dot and then type com and then hit enter. Let me know how it works out!
