Art is something that happense in conjunction with society and community and I beleive it has the potential and power to be a beneficial force of change. The best way to make change is to seek it out and actively participate in making it happen, in your own life and in the world. These days change is happening very fast so in a way you have a choice to seek it and shape it orhave it roll right over you and shape your life willy nilly. Which will it be?

Open Source Artists Studio... bringing Open Source to everything... is my current project, including especially Games and play. Right now I am working on a teaching manual for the BIG Open Source tools.

I am a conceptual artist. Formerly a traditional studio artist I have moved my entire process and studio online. Open Source is important for creative freedom because you are learning a technology that will not lock you out, also it will grow with you and become richer for having many people working on the code. As an artist Open Source allows a chance to be involved in this large scale collaborative process of shaping the tools that we use to express ourselves with and to free our potential. Using tools like Ubuntu you can also salvage and recycle older machines and make them powerful learning tools for the people around you. Open Source and Creative Commons means that you can also share your work in a meaningful way.

Overall I use a mixture of operating systems and stations as well as software. Including Mac G5, Sony Vaio XP, Ubunyu (on an old HP), and an OLPC laptop.
The alchemy is in the box, my studio is everywhere that I have access to my online social networks and my resources links and site cattavery.com is the base for that process..

Mostly I am working with: Open Office, Blender3D, GIMP, Garageband, Finalcutpro express, Inkscape, seamonkey,Drupal, also some software like: Adobe suite, Garageband, Finalcutpro express, Spongefork, MPEG streamclip, Firefox, Cyberduck, and for mindmapping and tracking my readings and connections I use Personal Brain. cattavery,com is where I keep my notes in my wikicatt, League of Extraordinary Historians wiki, and personal portfolio. It is now a drupal site and I am working with that a lot.
