The Longest Walk 2 is a five-month long trans-continental journey on foot from San Francisco, CA to Washington, D.C. to bringing attention to issues of environmental injustice, protection of sacred sites, cultural survival, youth empowerment, and eroding Native American rights.
The Longest Walk 2 follows two routes, a Northern and a Southern one that will cover more than 8,000 miles in total, stopping each evening in communities along the way. People from all over the world are joining the walk with its peaceful and spiritual call to action to protect Mother Earth and defend Human Rights. The Longest Walk 2 also marks the 30th anniversary of the original Longest Walk of 1978 that resulted in historic changes for Native Americans.

The Longest Walk 2008
February, 11 - July 11, 2008
8,000 miles total
OUR MISSION:
We walk with the message: All Life is Sacred, Save Mother Earth
We shall walk for the Seventh Generation, for our youth, for peace, for justice, for healing of Mother Earth, for the healing of our people suffering from diabetes, heart conditions, alcoholism, drug addiction, and other diseases.
Through the elements of the seasons, we shall walk through the rain, snow, over mountains, high winds, through the heat and cold, nothing shall deter us from completing our mission: All Life is Sacred, Protect Sacred Sites.
Let those who doubt, hear our pledge. Let those who believe, join our ranks. As we walk the final miles, by our side will be elders, families, children, people of all races, from many walks of life, the old and the new America. All Life is Sacred, Protect Mother Earth.
Great song by a great man Floyd Red Crow Westerman
"Where were you when, we needed you my friend?
Where were you when, we needed you to defend?
Now you claim to be a true born Cherokee!
But Where were you when we came close to the end?
When our land was being stolen, you just stood by.
When we were being massacred you didn..t even cry.
When they put us on reservations, you didn..t loose any sleep.
When we were straving half to death you had enough to eat.
So tell me, Where were you when, we needed you my friend?
Where were you when, we needed you to defend?
Now you claim to be a true born Cherokee!
But Where were you when we came close to the end?
When we cried out to you, you never said a word.
When we had no voice, you never even heard.
When freedom was being denied, you never questioned why.
When we needed help, some how the well was always dry..
So tell me, Where were you when, we needed you my friend?
Where were you when, we needed you to defend?
Now you claim to be a true born Cherokee!
But Where were you when we came close to the end?"

For us, warriors are not what you think of as warriors.
The warrior
is not someone who fights, because no one has the right to take
another's life.
The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself
for the good of others.
His task is to take care of the elderly, the
defenseless, those who can not providefor themselves, and above all,
the children, the future of humanity.

See that road, thats a warriors road. This road is the one chosen for you. It's a lonely road filled with many hardships and temptations. As a warrior you must speak the truth and fight the good fight. The creator watches you, your ancestors guide you. Never be afraid brother, when your heart is good, any day is a good day to Die, Aho Mitakuye Oyasin!!
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone who is resisting modern Colonization/Brain washing. Those who accept there true culture of being tribal people.
Those who are true tribal people and are learning or know about there culture and not just doing it because its the 'cool' thing to do. People who aren't afraid to speak up, who will not be silenced by the threats and oppression of modern day society. People who embrace and defend their culture against Colonialism. Tribal people who will die rather than see the destruction of there people, culture, and earth mother......
