About me:
My name is Sean Foote. I live in Portland, OR and I have been lucky enough to teach and play the bass full time for a living.
I started playing music at the age of 8 and started with the obligatory piano lessons, then middle school and high school started playing: trumpet, drums, Tuba, Souzaphone and finally at my senior year I settled on electric bass.
I moved to LA and immersed myself into listening to as many bass players as I could like: Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee, Mark King, Stu Hamm, Gary Willis, John Pattitucci, Abe Laboriel, the list goes on.
I lived in LA for about 7 years playing and meeting future rockstars then finally deciding that LA is not the place for me moved back to Portland. Since I've been back in Portland for the last 10 years I've been studying music theory, Jazz and Blues and becoming inspired by Jazz legends like: Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Coltrane, John Scofield, Ron Carter, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter, and, again, the list goes on and on. I'm currently playing with Linda Hornbuckle and Liv and the Warfield project. I also do casuals with other bands as well.
I feel extremely lucky to be doing what I do for a living.
On the personal front, my wife and I were married a year ago. I know she is my soulmate because she is as big of a wiseass as I am, and we have so much fun together.
I've been getting back into golf which is the most addictive sport there is. It's a sport that gives you the highest of highs and lowest of lows, I'm currently in a low spot and it's frustrating the hell out of me.
I also enjoy riding my road bike and jogging. I'm trying to stay in good shape so I'll still be able to whoop my kids at basketball when I'm 55.
I've lived in Portland all my life and I love it here. I've been to Europe and Canada and Mexico, haven’t done a ton of traveling but out of all the places I've been I really love Portland. I think we have the best people here and a great quality of life.
Playing bass in Portland for a living and having a cool wife is a pretty good life.
