  • Sounds Like

We've been told we sound like everything from Pink Floyd to Jane's Addiction. We have no idea who we sound like honestly. The band is experimental in nature. So as you progress through any of our albums the material crosses and incorporates various genres, sounds and influences, but in the end we like to believe our sound will stand as unique (with the obvious nods and respect for our influences).

NOTE on "Fly Again" - This acoustic song was the intended B-side of our Hippie Girl single. The track has a certain Rusted Root feel to it as it builds from laid-back beginning to a bongo and percussion driven crescendo.  We also uploaded the "Free Love Mix" of Hippie Girl so the entire Hippie Girl single is now available. Thanks for taking the song for a spin.

Uploaded a couple of new tracks tonight. As The Crow Flies is an acoustic track from the How Does It Make You Feel (EP); and the garage jam track "Washout" which was the opening track of our first album "Beggars & Thieves."

NOTE on "Riddle of a Poor House Man" - Just a note on the song (can't remember if I commented already). The "live" version of Riddle from "Live at Last" is the only recording we did of this song. The song was written around the time of Beggars & Thieves (or shortly thereafter) but for some reason was not included on the Beggars album.  Peace, Rob

IN THE HEAD was recorded immediately after Fly With Me. Both songs on the single (In The Head and Girl Like You) continue the radio friendly writing style of Fly With Me - repetitive hooks and straight forward chorus and melody lines. Definitely less eclectic and less psychedelic than the songs from STONE FLY. Production wise, In The Head is more demo'ish in nature and we left the rough edges in the final mix.

Clay and I uploaded both "FLY WITH ME" and "IN THE HEAD" Singles last night, together with the covers and tray card art.

FLY WITH ME was recorded after STONE FLY was released and after "LIVE" AT LAST was done. The song was also on the CROSSROADS 7 Compilation CD (as part of the 7th Annual New Music Showcase & Expo in Memphis, TN). We were invited to showcase at Crossroads. It was cool to play the famous Beale Street clubs in Memphis. I recall we played two nights on Beale Street, the first night we played under an alter-ego name (I don't recall the name we played under), and the second night we played under SDC. During the Memphis  trip Clay and I had the chance to tour Sun Records & Sun Studios - the birthplace of rock music (i.e. the 1956 Elvis debut singles). Fly With Me gained the band radio airplay and the attention of several major labels because it was such a radio friendly pop song. There was a lot of buzz around the song. It was (and remains) probably our most radio friendly song, but IN THE HEAD and GIRL LIKE YOU are a very close 2nd in my opinion.

"Somewhere On The Hill" is another eclectic song on the CNN album. Stylistically, the song could be considered a sister track to "These Are The Days." CNN contains a lot of different types of songs from the eclectic psychedelic stuff like "Somewhere on the Hill" to straight forward rock songs like the title track "Conspiracy No. 9" or "Crash" and "Sun On My Thumb." Regardless if the song was straight forward rock or one of our more experimental songs, we always tried to make the song unique and interesting in some way. For example: we recorded and mixed two versions of CNN (the song) for the album - a slower version with additional guitars, percussion, and other sounds (which we call the "hippy mix") and a faster version which approaches a more popular punk style (which I call the "cheap trick" mix).
