FOOTPRINTS – BAND BIOS
The band Footprints was formed way back in 2000 by four young friends residing in the same neighborhood and keen to share their love for music. A couple of years later, the band decided to go for a new up and coming music genre, that is Christian Rock. It did not take long for the band members to start writing their own original material and profess their values and a positive message through music. The present members of the band are Jurgen Scicluna (Vocals and Keys), Hilary Spiteri (Guitars), Bernard Catania (Guitars), Keith Scicluna (Bass) and Ivan Cassar (Drums & Percussion).
Throughout the years, the band has been invited to play in various events and youth gatherings in Malta. In 2006 and 2007, Footprints took part in the KDZ World Youth Day Song Contest and the band was awarded for best lyrics in both contests. Furthermore, 2008 has been a very good year for the band with the participation in the 'Awakening Asaph' compilation, the XFM virtual rock star competition and releasing the first single, 'Red Lines'. ‘Red Lines’ has been included in the 'Malta Rocks' compilation that was launched in July 2008. The song speaks about racism, war, abortion and other forms of injustice which plague today's society. Footprints are currently working on new material that will be released shortly in the local market.
The band’s second single was sponsored by the “Gift of Life Foundation” and has been recorded at Doyaya Studios under the supervision of Boris Cezek. The song entitled “Gift of Life” was written by Hilary Spiteri and speaks about the fact that life is a gift given to us by God, and thus we must always safeguard and protect life from its very beginning. The song relates the story of a young woman who is faced with the decision of having an abortion. Through God’s grace, the woman finally resolves to accept this ‘gift of life’ being her child, and cannot help feeling astonished of how she could have thought of killing her own child. The selfishness of the human race is clearly exposed in this story, together with the fact that when one decides in favour of life, he or she will always be making the best choice. Footprints hope that the song “Gift of Life” and the Music Video directed and produced by Rene Rossignaud will help to spread a positive message and be an eye-opener in today’s pluralistic society.
