Sounds Like
I dunno... why don't you tell us! Msg us!
However, if I must tell you something, I guess it would resemble Long-View, Noise Ratchet (Til We Have Faces-era), Death Cab and Beck mashed up in a food processor...
Today marks the beginning of a journey. This is the opening chapter for Footsteps, a Dallas-based indie rock duo (Paul Bruno and Aaron Mathew). Their debut EP, Awake and Moving, comes out February 13, and...
Hmm, what was that? What does it sound like? Well, rather than talk about what to compare their sound to, or even talk about what "influenced" them, Paul and Aaron would much rather talk about the music they love (everything from Beck to Death Cab to the Fugees) and have you play a guessing game about what you think they'd sound like. Sure, they play things like electric guitars and drums and basses and like to crank it up to 11, but sometimes the strongest of statements can be communicated best with a quiet tone of voice and a sensitive touch. (Here are a few more hints: Ben Folds, Thrice, Sufjan and Coldplay.) So... what do you think? It's okay; most people can't figure it out, even after they've had a listen. (At least the people we've talked to.)
So, does that automatically make it good? "Nope," Paul says. "At least, I sure don't think so. You can be as original as you'd like, but if it isn't good, it doesn't matter how original it is. I'd much rather write songs that are able to speak to people for years to come than create some new genre."
Want to know how you can intersect with this journey? Go ahead and buy the EP by going here to their online store, available now! And check out their PureVolume or Virb pages, dig into the lyrics, tell your friends (parents, siblings, and pets, too) - however you like to "get into" music. And be sure to stay tuned to this page for Footsteps announcements and updates.
Most of all, to those who are already friends and supporters of the band, thank you for all your encouragement and support: what you've given and continue to give is truly priceless and irreplaceable.
