THE BAY OF PIGS are Pete "Dr Pump" Lawler a statesman, a gentleman and a celestial soul brother and Kev Garant Guitarist and ex New York resident has played with everyone from Sting to Afrika Bambaataa from Vanilla Ice to Paul Kelly.
Hi, I'm noted sexologist and Orgone salesman Popeye Sinatra. I'm the Pigs' therapist, advisor and ideas man. Recently I asked Kev and Pumpy some questions:
PUMPSTER, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE LAYING DOWN THE CHANSONS D'AMOUR IN A SMOOTHY SMOOTH STYLE? SHOULDN"T YOU BE WORKING ON SOME ORIGINAL SHIT?
"Man, do you listen to Magic 1278? They play all those great songs and most are not sung by the people who wrote them. You know Leslie Gore, Aretha; everyone who sings the Bacharach/David songs; they are interpreters of great compositions. That’s what it takes. Nobody ever asked Elvis if he wrote a song. The Pigs are just laying it out so y'all can play it out, channeling the emotion of the composition. If you will.
KEV, WHAT ARE YOU 2 HARDCORE ROCKIN' DADDIES DOING GETTING ALL TEDDY PENDERGRASS ON THIS SHIT?
"A few years back both Pete and I had just come out of long term relationships, we were hanging a lot, drinking, singing and playing Burt Bacharach songs. Nina Simone, The Carpenters, the daggier the songs were, the better they made us feel. These damn love songs made us feel so good we had to get into the studio straight away to make a record. For Lover's Only is slow, smooth and picks up in all the right spots, it's what lovin' is all about."
WHY YOU CALLED THE BAY OF PIGS?
"It's Kennedy period America, I was reading a story about a goat farmer who'd taken over an abandoned US casino in Havana and I imagined what the house band in such a place would sound like. "

" I dig soul ballads, Billy Stewart, the Del-Fonics, Ruth Brown, Barbara Mason, that's my thing. '
I HEAR A VIBE YOU MIGHT BE GETTING SOME GUEST VOCALISTS IN FOR THE NEXT LP, I WAS KNOCKED OUT BY GRANEY, JOEL AND JOLLY AT YOUR LAUNCH, WHO ARE YOUR DREAM GUESTS?
" I want Tom Waits to sing Rick Springfield's 'Jessie's Girl', Ella Hooper singing ' Yes I'm Ready ', Barry Crocker doing 'A Very Good Year ' and Olivia Newton John doing Any Way You Want It Baby by Eartha Kitt. "
