Rock For A Cause is a not-for-profit organization that acts as a liaison between charities and musicians by putting on benefit shows for various charities. Rock For A Cause is a political and religiously neutral organization that puts the proceeds of each show to a different charity. The organization's inception began out of the University of Calgary by a number of like-minded students, today it has grown and expanded to Ontario.
Currently, Rock For A Cause is preparing for its first show in Toronto, an acoustic set at the Rancho Relaxo on Queen Street set for November 15, 2008. We hope to see you there.
The Crew:
Erica Cowan AKA Gumby. Erica is a yoga instructor by the early mornings and a medical student by day... by night we're not too sure what she is but we think it's some sort of action hero. She can contort her body in all sorts of ways, hence the nickname. Rock For A Cause (RFAC) acquired this intelligent, flexible beauty by her enthusiasm to make a difference in the community. She loves her music and she loves the community so hiring this charismatic leader was an easy choice for us.
Chris Ford, no relation to the automobile maker, indeed drives a Ford truck... maybe because he's from Oshawa, maybe because he likes the ring with his name. Either way this medical student joined the RFAC team with an enthusiasm that would impress Richard Simmons. Chris knows his music and is one of the more intelligent cats I have had the pleasure of meeting. With Chris' laid back attitude and uncanny ability to ace a medical test by studying only hours before go time made him the perfect candidate to be one of the three heads of the RFAC Toronto chapter.
Last but not least it is I, Rob Roth, Rockin Robbie Roth, or as a friend recently noted that my stage name should be Rob Robert Roth (since all great artists have at least two first names in their name). I moved from Calgary at the beginning of this year and the move to TO has been bitter-sweet, bitter because there's a hell of a lot of snow but no mountains to ride so it seems the snow dies in vain here... but sweet because the music scene is second to none. Toronto seems like the perfect fit for RFAC and I am completely stoked about the expansion of the organization to this great city. I hope you all get the opportunity to experience an RFAC party, because there's few things better than enjoying great music while simultaneously giving back to the community. Cheerio for now friends, see you soon!
