I started writing about folk music, mainly because I couldn't find any other young people who did. And although there's some great folk and traditional music publications and websites out there, I wanted to start my own zine.
So this is what For Folk’s Sake is all about. A cheap, cut-and-stick bedroom effort which you'd usually find in indie or punk circles, but about folk music!
The kind folk at Cup have also let me steal a night each month to host For Folk's Sake live, where a blend of folk-influenced musicians and spoken word artists come together to showcase their sounds, words and stories. It's usually the first Thursday of the month, 6-9pm at Cup, 53-55 Thomas St, Manchester, but keep your eye on this merry page.
'Thanks again for a great evening. Varied, good quality acts, well organised, and an attentive audience - the perfect mix! We were disappointed that we could only hear one song by Ottersgear before we had to leave for the train.'
