Contrary to what some people believe, Forget The Girl is not a rock band selling anti-woman anthems or denying the painfulness of relationships. In the words of vocalist/guitarist Mike Hong, "it's about getting up in the morning and punching life in the face, rather than avoiding it. Life is about more than just girls... ok, and that being said, we like girls a whole lot."
FTG's hook-driven melodies and unforgettable lyrics come amidst a synergy of memorable rock guitar riffs and some drums and bass to back it up.
Well, ok, they do more than just back it up but this bio was written by a guitarist. Forget The Girl's live presence is unmistakably passionate and real.
The songs speak about deeper issues of despair, fear, hope, and at the appropriate times, simply come alongside someone to let them know they are not alone. "It's not just about the music," insists Mike, "it's about what the music is pointing to. That's what all good art does."
The band started in the summer of 2002 when Mike, then a student at Boston College, was introduced to guitarist/vocalist Thomas and then drummer Robin, who were both finishing up degrees at Berklee College of Music. Mike had written some songs, and so the trio began to practice together, with Thomas playing bass guitar. The group played a few small venues. Bassist David Chen, a mutual friend, joined the band a few months later, freeing up Thomas to play guitar and expand the band's sonic creativity. David thought up the name of the band's first release, the donut ep, released in the fall of 2003. Robin left in the summer of 2006 to pursue other musical directions and Marvin came on board Fall of 2006 to more than fill some big shoes. Thomas and Marvin now share same unspecified guy love. The small change in lineup seemed to be the catalyst in getting things done in the studio.
Forget The Girl's first full album release, Walk Around In Your Head, was released on April 13, 2007.
David parted ways with the band playing his last show on August 30, 2007. Peter Chan, a good friend of the band, heeded the call picked up a bass rig and is now laying down the backbeat with Marvin "The Beast" Khoo.
