This page is dedicated to the forgotten works of:
After their success with Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound, the animation team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera decided to try their
hand with primetime cartoons. They pitched a short pilot episode titled "The Flagstones" to ABC.
ABC bought the show, but changes were made. First, the title was changed to "The Flintstones". Their second pilot (and the first which would actually air) was titled "The Swimming Pool". "The Swimming Pool", however, still looked too rough for the network, so they decided to run another more polished episode, "The Flintstone Flyer", first.
The Flintstones originally ran from September 30, 1960 - September 2, 1966 on ABC. After that, the series was rebroadcast on NBC for a few more seasons (January 17, 1967 - August 1969; September 6, 1969 - September 5, 1970.
During the show's first run, it was sponsored by Miles Laboratory Products, makers of "One-A-Day Multiple Vitamins" and "Alka-Seltzer"
"Carnation Evaporated Milk" was also an advertiser in Spanish speaking countries.
The show was also "Brought to You By", Supreme Kitchen Rich Cookies, Skippy Peanut Butter, NuSoft Fabric Softener and Bosco Chocolate Syrup.
Probably the most notorious of all The Flintstones' sponsors was Winston Cigarettes.
When Wilma became pregnant with Pebbles, Winston Cigarettes was dropped as a sponsor in favor of the much healthier Welch's Grape Juice.
In 1961, Hanna-Barbera decided to release a record album that consisted of eight original songs (written by William Hanna, Joseph Barbera and musical director Hoyt Curtin), featuring the four voices of The Flintstones (Alan Reed, Jean Vander Pyl, Mel Blanc and Bea Benaderet).
Throughout the original six season run of The Flintstones, ABC featured numerous promos for the show. Some even included "special guest stars"!
Just who were the people involved with The Flintstones, you may ask?
In 1967 Busch Beer contacted Hanna-Barbera in order to have a "special" Flintstones episode produced for them, which would advertise their beer to their distributors. This was another moment in Forgotten Flintstones history.
In 1968, Miles Laboratories introduced what would become one of the biggest selling Flintstones products of alltime, the still popular, "Flintstones Vitamins".
In 1970, the Aurora Toys corporation produced a rare 6 minute Flintstones promo featuring a musical group called "The New Generation" to advertise their new line of toys.
In 1971, Post Cereals developed a new and exciting Flintstones Cereal named "Fruity Pebbles", which was followed by "Cocoa Pebbles" in 1972. Today they remain as popular as when they were first introduced!
Numerous Flintstones parodies have been produced throughout the yrs, by many popular celebrities and TV characters.
There have been thousands of Flintstones toys, comic books and collectibles produced since the show premiered.
It is these rare Flintstones commercials, collectibles (and other such Flintstones oddities) that this site is proudly dedicated.
