Born and raised in Sweden, a country mainly known for its bikini
teams, Volvo, Absolut vodka and the Nobel Prize – until now. Johan
Reinhold popularly known as Form One found his calling as a rapper/
MC in his late teens. Today considered as one of the most prolific and
successful Swedish rappers rhyming in English.
Known for his signature voice, his lyrical performance where he educates and
entertains simultaneously. His ability to naturally mix rapping with singing and for
his unique sound when it comes to the music itself .
Form One has come a long way since he first started rapping in 1998 which has
earned him to collaborate and record songs with such US MC’s like Canibus, Sean
Price (Heltah Skeltah, Bootcamp Click), Chino XL, A.G. (D.I.T.C.), Rakaa Iriscience
(Dilated Peoples) and Akrobatik just to name a few.
Late last year Form One re-introduced himself as a genuine artist to a world where
hip-hop has become a popularity contest. He did so with his patented back-tothe-
future sound that crosses many different genres but still keeps it hip hop. Not
worrying about being the most popular MC out there, but succeeding in making a
classic album that will stand the test of time.
Form One refuses to dumb down his music and is set out to create hip hop that
lasts in the long run. To do this Form One decided to take it back to the days when
artists like A Tribe Called Quest was at the peak of their fame. When rappers had
something to say and made music with substance. Only this time Form One and
longtime friend and producer, Astma (winner of the Swedish Deejay Award for
“Best Urban Producer/ Remixer -08”) found a unique way of blending the old with
the new thus creating something completely fresh for years to come.
Form One’s latest album entitled “Behind Blue Eyes” can be described as commercially
viable music that both entertain and makes you think at the same time. Its
catchy melodies and organic sound fits perfectly with Form One’s raspy voice and
his conscious lyrics, often portraying the everyday life and struggles of all human
beings.
The first single called “Money”, taken from “BBE” featured one of Europe’s brightest
shining new stars, Vincent and quickly became an online hit. It was downloaded
close to 25.000 times in its first 24 hours out. The second single “Away” dropped in
the beginning of July and became even more successful reaching 14 on the
Swedish Top 60 Singles Chart. The third single “Falling Down” became an even
bigger hit and received massive airplay for 16 weeks straight on Sweden’s largest
radiostation P3, broadcasting nationwide and on ZTV, the Swedish equivalent to
MTV.
Behind Blue Eyes became critically acclaimed by unanimous journalists and
magazines all over Sweden rewarding it with predominantly 4 out of 5 reviews. The
album also received a Swedish Grammy nod for “Best Hip Hop/ Soul” of the year
and was also nominated in the same category at the P3 Gold Awards.
Since the release of “BBE”, Form One has toured Sweden, Germany, Austria and
Switzerland to support the album alongside his fellow-countrymen, the Looptroop
Rockers.
He was chosen to open up at the International chapter of “Rock The Bells” for US
artists Nas, De La Soul, Mos Def, The Pharcyde, Supernatural and Scratch.
Last year Form One also got to open up for rap superstar, The Game not to forget the
Kentucky based rapgroup, the CunninLynguists and Eminem’s lastest signee, Bobby
Creekwater. A successful year indeed.
No one knows what the future holds for Johan Reinhold but one thing is for sure –
Form One got some things to say and the world is listening.
