About me:
Found Sounds…
No, not a record shop, nor label, neither is it an individual stood in a field capturing the sounds of nature with a Uher reel to reel and boom mic (although the thought is somewhat appealing). Rather two men with a fanatical and bankrupting passion for music of all kinds.
Meeting at a Steve Hillage convention in 1983, the duo found a shared appreciation for dry ice, pretentious prog and highly collectable ‘Classic Rock Pose’ figurines. From there they formed an unholy alliance vowing to bring their passion to a wider audience.
That failed and in 1999, they decided to pursue their other obsession of music. This led them to become scribes for the world renowned DJ Magazine (forming the backbone of the ‘Leftfield’ reviews page) and allowed them to promote their own ‘Sonorous’ club nights and events, luring in such vinyl spinning luminaries as David Holmes, Andrew Weatherall , Ashley Beedle, Ross Allen, Cherrystones & Andy Votel, Jerry Dammers, Howie B and Zero Db to name a few…
The daylight hours also sees them running Milk Music http://www.milk-music.com a consultancy service providing the best ‘leftfield’ music (both bespoke and sourced) for the TV, Film, Advertising and Media Industries.
The musical scope? Well as Frank Zappa once said -
‘Without Deviation from the norm, progress is not possible’. Take in the recognisable, heed the experimental. Keep your ears (and minds) open and your eyes firmly on the quality control.
So, to those who require the literal definition of Found Sounds musical landscape, it follows a skewed path that weaves from the depths of Black Music’s essential discography via Europe’s fascination with Progressive sounds both past and present.
A place where Can sit with Carl Craig, Hancock nestles with Herbert, Fennez cuddles up to The Fall and Mandingo rest against Main Source.
And that my friends, is just the beginning…
