'And down by the lake, there was the trail of a star, hanging on like that spark…’
- Spark
Like a distant train, all memory and ghosts and seeing things slipping past in sepia hues. Then driving under stars at night with city lights in the mirrors and the road pushing onwards, onwards; Being lost in your own backyard; Waiting for a sign that never comes; Reaching for moments as they disappear; Liberation in being invisible; Conversations that mean nothing and everything, and the tide always changing.
FOUND AT SEA is all of these things.
It’s also a self-titled debut album. It was recorded and mixed by renowned producer Paul McKercher (Augie March, Sarah Blasko, You Am I, Midnight Oil) in three Sydney studios over the summer of 2008/09. It’s songs lurch and swing between melancholic pop, lush, sweeping rock, rusted, fragile melodies, to moments of noisy angst, and beyond. It wants to live in your heart and your head.
FOUND AT SEA have been writing, recording, & playing shows since early 2004 under the name ‘Helter’. Their sound is an approximation of everything that pushes their buttons musically - but more specifically Australian indie luminaries like Bluebottle Kiss & Big Heavy Stuff, the electricfied Neil Young, as well as the American indie canon of Built to Spill, Death Cab For Cutie, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes etc....
The release of their debut album seemed a fitting time for a change of name that more accurately reflects their style and musical direction.
Set for release in 2010, FOUND AT SEA will be available digitially through iTunes as well as in selected retail outlets,
