"Four Finger Five is tremendously talented. They have enough creativity and song-writing capability to defy being pigeon-holed into any one genre. Fusing elements of rock, soul, jazz, funk, and even reggae, their understanding of music is illustrated through their well-composed songs and even further so by their ability to jam together in a live setting. Having had the pleasure of seeing them perform in person, I can assure you that they play incredibly tight and follow each other like an Indy car on a racetrack as they extend parts of their songs with improvised jams. They never tread too far off course, however, and always come back strong with the catchy choruses and hooks that their fans have grown accustomed to.
Hailing from Muskegon, Michigan, this band is comprised of Joe Sturgill on lead guitar and vocals, Steve Harris on drums, and Mike Phillips on bass. For a trio their sound is immensely full, and they rely on their talent as musicians to create a full sound rather than any gimmicky effects or over-saturated tones. Mike Phillips is even friends with the amazing Victor Wooten, whom he has shared the stage with before. You can hear Wooten’s influence in his skillful and fluid bass lines, and Phillips and Harris playing together create a deep and funky pocket. Sturgill’s voice fits the band incredibly well, and doesn’t overwhelm or overshadow the music. The band has also collaborated with the famous saxophone player Karl Denson and pianist Anthony Smith.
If you combined elements of James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and Jamiroquai you'd have an approximation of the sound the band delivers…overall their sound is a delicious mix of soulful vibes from the 60s and 70s with a modern twist. As good as their debut album is, I must recommend that you see them live if you get the chance, so that you can see and hear for yourself just how fresh the jams these guys lay down are." - review by Chronic Music, http://chronicmusic.blogspot.com
"They're (Four Finger Five) definitely a project I want to stay involved with as much as possible. They have as much potential as any of the bands I work with." - Bill Chrysler
The simple fact that you share your birthday with at least 9 million other people in the world might make someone feel insignificant. I'm hoping that knowledge was blocked out by playing your track during last week's show.
