Sounds Like
In the reviews for the latest album, those writing people have said we sound like the following bewildering bunch of totally unrelated bands: Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, Augie March, Coldplay, U2, Radiohead, The Polyphonic Spree, Split Enz, Pink Floyd, Powderfinger, Starsailor, Turin Brakes, Badly Drawn Boy, Eskimo Joe, Delta Goodrem (just seeing if you were paying attention)...so take from that list what you will and listen to the tracks. They're just up there...
We think it's kinda layered, to remain interesting after lots of listens. You'll hear vocals and sometimes whole choirs, an army of guitars, bass, drums, flutterings of electronics, pianos, keyboards, sleigh bells, banjos and mandolins doing cameos, small children, talkback radio, bells that chime, bottlecaps and coins, foot stomps and handclaps.
We've emerged from a post-Victoria victory lap of the country to play some acoustic shows that will showcase a broad range of material dating right back to the early days of the band. The groundwork is being done on a new album.
THE LATEST ALBUM
The Fourth Floor machine has been steadily ticking over during the past few months and we're ready to set album number four upon the world.
It'll be released by the stellar people at Creative Vibes.
It'll be available in all good stores.
It will have tracks in this order:
1. Xmas 88
2. Best Disguise
3. Deadbeat
4. Same Mistake
5. Black and Blue
6. Drive On Regardless
7. All is Forgiven
8. Audrey is Sad
9. Whole Lot Comes Alive
10. Get Up Slow
11. Without Wires
12. The Tigers Are Waiting
13. Someone Else to Blame
The first single is Drive On Regardless.
It makes an excellent gift at any time of year and will make your ears tingle, your eyes water, your heart beat, your knees weak, and your left arm go slightly wobbly.
Keep an eye out round here and at fourthfloorcollapse.com for more details about our new release and for tour dates and other fun stuff.
For everyone that listens to Triple J radio in Australia you can request the new single, Drive On Regardless online at TRIPLE J's SUPER REQUEST, or send a text message to 1975 7 555 or simply call from 6pm nightly on 1300 0555 36.
The Bio
There's no place like a new home. Fourth Floor Collapse upped stumps in 2005 and shifted their base from Perth to Melbourne. Crossed the Plain to play to more people, more often and with a new record under tucked under their collective wings too. 'Books with Broken Spines' is the band's third album and was released in February 2006 to the usual hoo-ha. First single, Drink Till You Drown, got a flogging on the wireless and the second, Occupation, started its occupation of the airwaves in the final week of May.
So here we are. About 250 shows since Dan, Rhys and Michael first played together in Dan's garage as 14-year olds. Yes, it goes back to the schoolyard. Over the next few years they set about becoming the most awarded unsigned band in Australia (10 WAMIs, Australian Live Music Awards, assorted songwriting prizes...), released an EP and a trio of albums, a bunch of singles, gained a following around the country, had national tours, got good airplay from community to commercial radio, got a MySpace site...all that jazz.

Roll up roll up, Vultures of Venus are back in town you funky disco cats. And guess what? ... their self-titled debut LP is finally here! Ten tracks of unadulterated Glampunk Electro madness! It’s unleashed on Thursday 29th of October at Bar Open on Brunswick St. It’s Bowie on steroids; it’s Marquis de Sade and Andy Warhol screaming at the moon through a home-made vocoder. The Lollyshop is open for business ! It’s going to be a huge night filled with bubble machines, strobes, psychedelic video projections and cautionary tales to tell your grandchildren. It will also feature live performances from those vixens of burlesque “the Venus Man Traps”. Support on the night comes from psych-popsters Go-Go Sapien serving up synth-infected garage with lashings of ravenous big sexy guitars. Make sure you get down early to catch the debut performance by newcomers Tusk. And most importantly we have kept the entry fee down to a very affordable – FREE ! Copies of Vultures of Venus’s LP can be scoped up for a low $10 on the night. Yee-Har space cadets !
There is currently a search for two types of bands for record label consideration.
*** Note: PLEASE IDENTIFY IF YOU ARE IN GROUP 1 OR 2 IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR RESPONSE. Emails are being reviewed by different representatives.
1. A Pop/Rock/Commercial band with female lead. Band must consist of 2 guitars (Prefer both guitar players to be of lead caliber. However, one lead and one rhythm is acceptable), keyboard/piano, bass, and drums. Lead vocal, followed by backing vocals, in that order, is a plus as it relates to other members of the group. 2. A Modern Rock band with male lead. Must be a complete band but there are no prerequisites as it relates to the make up of the band. Average age of the band cannot exceed 23 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.

Vultures of Venus prepare to tear up the stage this week with two incendiary performances. The first at Revolver on the 23 July on Chapel St. The Vultures are joined by the devastating sounds of Roxy Moron and MojoRising, both well respected noise makers from the Southside of town. The night promises to kick some true dance rockin punkadelic ass and blow da minds of all da yuppie princesses on Chappel St. If you've never seen a cool dance rock show with a twist of the 70's underground then get yr asses moving. Shake it ... Shake it from da hip THEN on Saturday night Vultures of Venus continue their 70's Bowie stylings as they head to their natural enviroment, as the perform at WOW in Geddes Lane in the CBD.The Vultures of Venus prepare to electrify ’WOW’ once more with their glam rock electronica accompanied by the acts Desert Morning, Cordyseps and The Lazy Sons as well as ACID JACKS fresh from touring America. Ya gotta be in it to win it! and as we all know there are a lot of beautiful prizes to be found for those willing to venture into the unknown........mention "VULTURES OF VENUS" at the door for cheaper entry.
