four unfold: a story with song
Oh sure, the set up isn't much different than anything we're all used to: four friends, all striving in their chosen art attempting their best life in New York City. But let's make it a step above the average theater experience. Let's make it real. Give Sam, an easy-goin' guy, a slow-going song-writing career, and a next door neighbor who has just a little more angst than her all-American, sweet appearence will let on. Give Tess a past that has destroyed her present state, which gives her all the ammunition she needs to get to the top and avenge the people who have caused her so much pain. Then let's add Annie, the effervecent atypical dancer, who escaped LA to find her dancing wings and finds life on her own a little more challenging than she had anticipated. Even though she usually can't see the answers to her own problems, she becomes the glue that binds and the voice of reason that helps each of them find what they've had all along. Although this might look complete enough, there needs to be a sub-plot AND a fourth. Why not add into the mix a hot singer with a rockin' sense of humor? Aden, Sam's best friend, who, despite his struggles with his homosexuality, has found his soul mate. Knowing his super-conservative parents will never approve, he struggles to find his identity regardless if they do or not. The issues and obstacles these four face are not unlike anything each of us encounter. We are molded by the events in our life, and how we chose to handle them. And it's all made worth the while because of the people who become dearest to us. So, throw in some really good tunes, some laughter, a rollercoaster of emotions and a few sandwiches and not only do you have a slice of life, you've got a REAL, good show.
