Mike started his drumming career by being asked to do a percussion slot on the Radio for the BBC. Soon word came around and he was asked to be the schools Jazz Drummer. After finishing school he went on to study music at college for a year, for an OCN music diploma and Audio Production higher diploma. The Audio Production has given him confidence with music software programmes such as Logic and Pro Tools.
He is also not just a drummer, with a real enthusiasm for electric Guitar. Mike is very keen on being able to contribute to songs as a writer. Also a very keen sound engineer. He runs his own studio where he teaches and records bands (using Digi 003 Pro Tools)
Teaching
Mike is a trained and qualified Drum Teacher. He spent his first couple of years of teaching at his home. Before long, he was over heard drumming in rehearsal by Anti-Nowhere league drummer Dave Hazlewood. Dave then trained him for his teaching qualification and employed Mike to teach for 2 years at One8e studios. Mike now teaches privately at his own studio that is fully equipped with two kits and recording equipment. ?He has taught students from 7 - 50 years old. He is known for bringing out the best in students in their confidence and in themselves. Always known for his patience and making the lessons fun and productive at the same time.
Session Drummer
Mike is known for being able to play a vast array of genres, from symphonic power metal of Crimson Tears, working with producer Karl Groom of “Threshold” To pop singers such as Maria Willson or jazz sessions. He has no fear of the click track, after recording with countless bands in the studio and running a studio of his own, it’s second nature.
Jonny Quality
Mike was asked to join “Jonny Quality” he encountered playing festivals such as “WOMAD That had such acts like Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin on the same bill. The band was so impressed they asked him to become a full time member. ?Jonny Quality has finished touring with Fatboy Slim and playing on national British television, appearing on shows such as “The Jonathan Ross show” and Jools Holland "Later". They also played on the Conan O'Brien Show in New York. Jonny Quality also donated one of his songs "Long Way From Home" to Fatboy for his latest album "Palookaville". They were Brighton’s biggest band selling out every gig and a real regular on the Brighton circuit and around the UK.
Maria Willson
After touring with Busted, he was then to replace UK session drummer “Damon Wilson” Her well known hits include Chooza Looza and Mr.Alibi. Mike took to the stage playing gigs such as The Royal Albert Hall as part of the TCT gig. That featured acts such as "The Fratellis" and Roger Daltrey from "The Who" "Phats and small" and Janet from "The Shapeshifters” Mike continues to gig and record with Maria, recently playing at the Mallory Park Motocross GP and plans to play abroad in Belgium, Morocco and Germany.
Pure Assassins
Mike has teamed up with legendary drum and bass producer Chris Rush (formerly of Calyx). Mike has had to follow in the footsteps of previous drummer “Terl Bryant” an integral part of John Paul Jones’ post-Led Zeppelin career. Mike & Chris are in the studio currently recording an album before touring next year.
