    .. .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .......... .. ..FOX VAN CLEEF...... by Gavin Sheehan....Hollowing out of the depths of the Ogden music scene, Fox Van Cleef took the art of the quintet rock group, long trendy and dead since the 1980’s, and brought it back with a unique sound and live presentation that set them apart from many of the rockers making their way around the Utah music scene. But the eventual incarnation of the group took over three years to build and perfect before their first release..... Forming out of their high school years, the group’s beginnings started when original members Baur, Bessire and Hodshire met each other through a video production class. The trio decided to start up a band together forming FVC’s first arrangement in the spring of 2006. Playing together and taking gigs for roughly a year, the band ran into Froling (playing guitar for another band) and asked him to join in, playing drums no less, after seeing his act. At this same show the group met Spencer Reed who would end up subbing for keys on their first record and nearly a year and a half later the group met and acquired Newey (who at the time singing in Intimachine) as their new keyboardist, and everything gelled..... Pulling their vocal style out of the classic blues and soul music, the group mixed it up with a 70’s psychedelic rock and hip-hop influenced beats to create their unique sound. Mixing in old-school ways with modern structuring, every song brings about a totally different experience while incorporating every member as an essential part. Whether it be a trippy riff, a pulse pounding beat, a spine-tingling bass line or even just a melodic tune off the keys, the members act as a well trained team with one simple goal in mind; to seduce the ears and minds of all around and leave them wanting more..... In 2007 the group released a four-song self-titled EP and quickly found a following, in 2009 the group released their first album – Cigarettes, Terrorism, Etc. An experience unto itself as the band went recording the session in sections, starting before Erich had officially joined the group. When the group entered the studio for Cigarettes, Terrorism, Etc. they had no idea it would be nearly a year before it was released on account of an injury Hodshire experienced which put the band out of commission for several months..... The band took this as an opportunity to hone their skills and soon re-entered the studio. In the fall of 2010 their third recording; an EP entitled Pleasure Junkies will be released.
